Extremely thankful and inspired!

I had an absolutely FANTASTIC time directing the Jazz Sectionals, Jazz Combos, and Jazz Band at the Florida State University Summer Music Camp!

I was truly blown away by the incredible organization, professionalism, musicianship, and positive energy that make this camp such a special experience. None of this happens without the Herculean efforts of Mark Belfast, Steve Kelly, and the entire amazing camp staff. I am so humbled and grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside such outstanding educators and wonderful people. So honored to be able to work with Leon Anderson, Carmen Griffin and Rodney Dorsey!

The camp was overflowing with talent and excitement, featuring three packed jazz bands and 10 outstanding jazz combos filled with passionate young musicians from all over. The energy all week long was simply incredible!

To all of my band director friends: if you have never sent your students to the FSU Summer Music Camp, you absolutely NEED to! Your students will grow tremendously as musicians while creating unforgettable memories and friendships. This camp is truly something special.

Thank you again to FSU for inviting me to be part of such an inspiring and unforgettable week of music-making!

Hello, we would like to introduce our new MAS JEN JAZZ Executive Board!

It has been an incredible 30th year of teaching for me, MAS bands and my brother, Steve Rivero who just finished year 31.

This year, the Miami Arts Studio 6-12 @ Zelda Glazer MAS Maverick Jazz Band and Concert Jazz Band both earned Straight Superior Ratings at District Music Performance Assessment. In addition, the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony also received Straight Superior Ratings — an outstanding achievement that reflects the hard work, passion, and commitment of our student musicians and staff.

The Concert Jazz Band had an unforgettable year, traveling to Orlando to participate in the prestigious Essentially Ellington Regional, where they were recognized as a Top Four Honors Band while also earning awards for Two Best Soloists and the Most Spirited Brass Section. The ensemble was also honored to perform at Monica Colluci’s “Night With the Stars” Award Ceremony. The Concert Jazz Band also performed in the Drowsy Chaperone!

Meanwhile, MAS Ritmo proudly represented our school and community by performing at the Carnaval on the Mile Community Festival and for the National Association of School Music Dealers.

What an INCREDIBLE year for the MAS Band Magnet program! I am so grateful for the support of our students, parents, boosters, administration, colleagues, and community. Watching our students grow as musicians and young leaders continues to be the greatest reward of all.

And the excitement continues…
