St. Joan of Arc was standing room only today as campus remembered and celebrated the life of President Michael Lovell on the second anniversary of his passing. As the 24th president in Marquette’s 143-year history and the first layperson to lead the university, President Lovell brought a spirit of innovation and collaboration that reshaped Marquette’s trajectory and strengthened its connections beyond campus. His legacy endures in the partnerships he fostered, the initiatives he championed and the people he inspired.
His continued legacy is also reflected through the Michael R. Lovell Presidential Scholarship program, created in partnership with the Lovell family to support future generations of Marquette leaders. The Lovell Scholars program benefits outstanding students from around the country who are grounded in humility and committed to the same values with which President Lovell lived his life — excellence, faith, leadership and service.

A top destination in the Ignatian pipeline from secondary to higher education, Marquette University consistently places in the top three (along with Boston College and Georgetown University) among the 28 institutions in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in both applications and enrollment from Jesuit high school students.
