Sometimes game design means spending hours designing a character in 3D modeling software. Other times, it means recording the sound of a tea kettle to simulate the beeping of a robot.

Students in the games and interactive media concentration always have to get creative to solve problems, and to turn their ideas into reality.

Thanks to a network of faculty, staff and student support resources, more than 90 percent of first-year students in the Diederich College of Communication return for their second year. That figure is more than 10 percentage points higher than the national average for private, four-year institutions. 💫

Faculty, staff and our visiting researcher put in some time volunteering at Markept.

Markept offers gently used goods to students during move-in for drastically reduced prices, helping to create a more sustainable university. A worthy cause for a few spare hands from the College of Comm!

Most people see journalists as providers of information. Dr. Patrick Johnson, assistant professor of journalism and media studies, sees them as educators.

That framing gives Johnson hope that responsible, thorough journalism can push back against growing animus toward LGBTQ+ representation in media.

"Journalism can be reflexive and responsible for correcting the past. It takes social justice to the next level," says Johnson.
