This year SGE recognized their new honor society inductees, who have demonstrated that they are excellent students who are killing it in their ERTH classes! Chapter president Larry Shuler was honored with SGE’s W.A. Tarr award, which recognizes a graduating or graduate student (Larry was both this year) for their scholarship, service, and leadership.

This year’s IBA team included both graduate and undergraduate Earth scientists who were registered for ERTH 4333 Subsurface Exploration Techniques with Julie Bloxson. The team was able to put their skills to work on a project that was a little different this year; it focused on development of a geothermal project. Congrats to the team for their hard work and endurance!

Field Camp is coming home! This morning they left Sipapu Lodge, their home for the last few days, and they’ll be in Texas - Amarillo - this evening. Before they left, they presented Field Camp superlatives to each other.

Makenna found this beautiful bit of calamites fossil at Holman Hill! Calamites is a horsetail reed that went extinct near the start of the Permian period.

Field Campers worked on interpreting the sedimentary facies at the Holman Hill location for their final project today.

The Holman Hill project is the final project of ! It looks like there are some interesting things to see there…
