Some works have a way of immediately commanding your attention.

Positioned on the front wall of the gallery, this striking piece by Alexander Corazzo sets the tone for the bold experimentation and evolving artistic language explored throughout New Ways of Seeing: American Modernism from a Private Collection.

Born in Lyon, France, Corazzo first studied music before turning to visual art after arriving in the United States in 1927. By the mid-1930s, his work had evolved into abstraction, leading to his inclusion in the influential European artists group Abstraction-Création and later the American Abstract Artists.

His work reflects the energy of a generation of artists redefining modern art through abstraction, form, and composition.
