As we count down to our sixth annual Father’s Day family cookout, we wanted to take the time and highlight some of the fathers of the TIL chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
Today, we highlight brothers Gary Whitlow and Jeffrey Owens.
Gary - Bro Gary Whitlow serves as the social media chair for TIL. He is the proud father of two beautiful daughters. Kiyah Nikole Whitlow (21) and Greenli Nicole Whitlow (12).
JayO - Bro. Owens is our Corresponding Secretary. He is the husband of Hope Owens and the father of Mia Grace and Micah Jon Owens. He believes that fatherhood is one of the greatest gifts he has received, and being able to watch the daily growth of his children makes it all worth it in the end.

Today, we highlight brothers Derek Jones, Lorenzo Hawkins III and Kimeo Smith
Derek Jones served as the first president of TIL chapter. Becoming a father has been one of the best blessings of my entire life. Brittyn and Cairo make my job easy and I remain thankful that HE has allowed me to be their daddy.
Lorenzo Hawkins III is the chair of our Father’s Day Picnic and serves as the Chaplain of the chapter.. My greatest accomplishment in my life was becoming a father. God has blessed me with beautiful and healthy children who are continuing to grow even into adulthood. I do not take being a father for granted and cherish every minute of it.
Kimeo Smith is the current Treasurer for TIL Chapter. He is a man who leads with both dedication and heart. His two children, Leilani and Henry are his greatest inspiration. He never hesitates to put their needs, and the needs of others, before his own. Kimeo embodies what it means to provide, support, and uplift, both in his family and in our brotherhood.

"Today I learned " Key positions vou'll be voting for and why each one matters:
This is the moment where we, the community, get to decide who will manage our local resources, safety, and future.
🚨 COUNTY SHERIFF: This is not a national role. The Sheriff vou vote for is responsible for public safety in your county, managing the jail, and creating a safety plan for the community.
COUNTY MAYOR: Think of the Mayor as the CEO of the county. They sign contracts and, most importantly, propose the entire county budget. They literally hold the purse strings for your local services.
🏫 SCHOOL BOARD: This board directly impacts your children and the future workforce. Thev hire the Director of Schools, set the overall educational vision, and create policies for vour local public schools.
💰 COUNTY TRUSTEE: This is your county's Chief Banker. They are responsible for collecting property taxes and managing the county's bank accounts. When you vote for a Trustee, you are choosing who oversees the local treasury, handles the "idle" cash to earn interest for the county, and ensures the bills get paid.
🚗 COUNTY CLERK: Think of this role as the Chief Administrator. From vehicle registrations and car tags to marriage licenses and business permits, the Clerk handles the essential paperwork of your life. They keep the official records for the county and ensure that the "gears" of local government and commerce stay turning.
📜 REGISTER OF DEEDS: This is the Protector of Property. They are legally responsible for recording and preserving all land titles, mortgages, and property maps. By voting for a Register of Deeds, you are electing the person who maintains the integrity of your property ownership records and ensures the county's land history is secure and accessible
Understanding the ballot is the first step to making an informed vote.
🗳 Early Voting: April 15 - April 30, 2026
🗳 Primary Election day: MaY 5, 2026
How well do you know the roles on your local ballot? Tell me in the comments!
