When students leave with vouchers, public schools lose the full per-pupil funding. BUT, the fixed costs of buildings, buses and staff don’t shrink. That forces cuts for the 90% of kids who remain.

Vouchers hurt public schools

Commentary: Federal vouchers will hurt New York’s public schools It would be a mistake for Gov. Hochul to opt us in to a program that harms the goal of equal educational opportunity.

New York State United Teachers and the UFT - United Federation of Teachers have filed a legal challenge to stop a scheme by Success Academy Charter Schools and the State University of New York’s Charter School Committee that attempts to circumvent the state’s charter cap.
