Another Unforgettable Week at Cav Camp! 🎒☀️

From spooky tricks to soccer kicks, our campers had an absolute blast this week!

Here is a look at what we've been up to on the Avenue:
🎃 Spooky Summer Spectacular: We got into the Halloween spirit early! Campers loved guessing mysterious items inside the STEM cauldron, crafting haunted houses in Cardboard Construction, and getting festive face paint.
👩‍🍳 Cav Camp Cooking: Our chefs have been busy mixing, making, and baking! They whipped up classic Rice Krispies treats, s'mores, and dirt cups. As a special spooky bonus, they also created "Mummies"—delicious pigs-in-a-blanket with a fun Halloween twist!
⚽️ World Cup Fever on the Avenue: World Cup fever has officially arrived! De La Salle soccer coach Alan DeRitter planned an incredible few days learning about different tournament countries, playing round-robin games, and watching the USA take on Australia.
🎲 Giant Games: What’s better than an UNO Reverse card? A GIANT UNO Reverse card! Giant versions of Plinko, Connect Four, checkers, chess, and Tic-Tac-Toe are always a massive hit with campers of all ages.

Next week on Wednesday, June 24th, Cav Camp is thrilled to welcome current DLS student Maeve Graffagnini ‘30 and her mother, Dr. Holly McKenna, to campus!

They will be hosting an interactive reading of their amazing children’s book:
🏀 Inhale, Exhale... Shoot! 🧠
Here is what our campers will experience:
📖 Interactive Reading: Maeve takes the lead in guiding the kids through this inspiring story.
🧘 Mindfulness Session: A short, age-appropriate breathing and calming exercise led by Maeve.
🧠 Resilience Tools: Dr. McKenna, an integrative psychiatrist, weaves in simple language about understanding emotions and calming our bodies.

We just wrapped up an incredible Week 2 filled with Jazz Fest vibes and WWOZ Mango Freezes, free-play Clay Day, and a visit from the iconic Roman Candy cart (proudly owned by a DLS family)! Plus, our PK3 & PK4 campers had a blast in their specialized, low-ratio groups. 🎨🍬👶

💦 THURSDAY & FRIDAY: Campus Water Days! The ultimate splash zone is back on campus this week.

🎒 WATER DAY CHECKLIST (THURSDAY & FRIDAY)
🩱 Wear: Swimsuit under regular clothes or a cover-up.
👟 Footwear: Closed-toe water shoes or sneakers that can get wet.
☀️ Sunscreen: Apply at home before morning drop-off.
🎒 Pack: A towel + a full change of dry clothes in a bag.
🚨 Reminder: LABEL EVERY SINGLE ITEM with your camper’s name!

⚔️☀️We officially kicked off the best summer ever on the Avenue! From high-energy adventures to local treats, our campers enjoyed every single second of Week 1.

🔬 STEM Innovation: Our future scientists engineered a week full of discovery! We graphed sweet treats, explored microscopic worlds, and built towers. 📊
✨🍧 NOLA Sweet Treats: Nothing beats the New Orleans heat quite like a cold, sweet snoball! Campers loved cooling off with this classic treat. (Psst... next week we are bringing another legendary local favorite straight to camp: Roman Candy! 🍬🐴)
💦 Ultimate Splash Zones: We know exactly how to stay cool. Thursdays are all about water slides, sprinklers, water balloons, and shaving cream fun on campus! On Fridays, we take the fun across the street to the JCC for a refreshing afternoon of swimming in the pool. 🏊‍♂️🌊

💦 Thursday: Water Day!
🫧Campers will enjoy inflatables, bubbles, water blasters, water balloons, shaving cream, and more!
🩱What to wear: Wear a swimsuit under a cover-up (or regular clothes) and shoes that can get wet.
🧴Before arriving: Please apply sunblock before camp.
👚What to pack: Pack a towel and a change of dry clothes.
🚨 Important: Please LABEL EVERYTHING with your camper’s name!

😎Friday: Snoballs & Swimming!
🏊We will beat the heat with a cool snoball treat and a trip to the JCC pool!
🍧Snoball Snack: Please send your camper with $2 in a labeled envelope or plastic bag.
🩱What to wear: Campers (in grades 1st-8th) wear a swimsuit under a cover-up (or regular clothes) and shoes that can get wet.
🧴Before arriving: Please apply sunblock before camp.
👚What to pack: Pack a towel and a change of dry clothes.
🚨 Important: Please LABEL EVERYTHING with your camper’s name!

🛟Swim Safety & Lifeguards: Our counselors will carefully monitor campers alongside the JCC’s professional lifeguards and staff.
📝Swim Test Details:
Upon arrival, campers can take an optional swim test.
✅Pass: Receives a green wristband to swim freely in both JCC pools.
🚫No Test / No Pass: Receives a red wristband. They can swim in the shallow pool without a life vest, or in the big pool wearing a provided life vest.
