KH is a special place!

Giving Day may be winding down, but our year-end appeal is just getting started!

Your gift to Kneisel Hall ensures our vibrant future as a chamber music school and festival.

With roots back to 1902, Kneisel Hall has been called “the cradle of chamber music teaching in America.”

We take it as our mission to foster the art of chamber music through teaching and performance in an intimate environment steeped in tradition and artistic excellence. We exist to enrich the artistic skills of our students and the cultural life of our surrounding community and to represent the highest ideals of ensemble performance.

Thank you for your support!

🎵 Harmony in Healing: Music for the Future Begins Its Resonant Journey at Amity Foundation 🎵

Project: Music Heals Us has officially arrived on the west coast, commencing the first of two four-day residencies of the organization’s extraordinary program Music for the Future at Amity Foundation in Downtown Los Angeles

Walking through the doors of Amity Foundation’s Los Angeles campus, it’s easy to feel at-home. Tommy and I have arrived at Amity a day before the residency begins in order to meet the staff and faculty, see the space, solidify logistics and make sure the devil is in fact still in the details. We’re immediately welcomed into the fold, greeted by anyone and everyone who passes by.

The building’s unassuming exterior belies what exists within; a lively, welcoming atmosphere and several spectacular spaces. We're ushered into the Rainmaker Room where our classes will largely take place and it's nothing short of magical; an expansive space with tall, vaulted ceilings yet plenty of cozy corners to tuck into. A circle of overstuffed chairs dominates the center of the space and a bustling birdcage sits in one corner. Artwork and sculptures adorn the walls and every detail is carefully considered in order to provide a sense of comfort, safety and refuge from the outside world. There’s a prevailing sense of peace and a shared sense of ownership among the community.

We’re given a quick tour of the campus. Several students approach us to introduce themselves and express their excitement for tomorrow’s workshop. The remainder of the day is used to make final preparations ahead of Lead Instructor Patricia Santos and the Dolphin Quartet’s arrival at LAX from New York this evening. Tomorrow, Music for the Future, led by Santos, commences with a morning concert for the entire Amity community, followed by the first class with this year’s cohort.

There’s a buzz of anticipation and excitement among all of us for the sacred, healing work that is about to begin. Stay tuned.

— Dana Martin

Welcome to Musical Monday with Music from Angel Fire

Every year since 1999, Music from Angel Fire has Young Artists--from prestigious conservatories--join the festival. This year, the Young Artists are coming from Curtis Institute and Juilliard. Here's a picture of the Juilliard artists . . . proof that these gifted young musicians don't spend ALL of their time in a practice room or in a rehearsal.

Come this year to meet (and hear), Luke Henderson, Isaac Park, James Preucil, and Ian Maloney. Coming from Curtis are Danny Yehun Jin, Maya Buchanan, Emad Zolfaghari, and Matthew Christakos. And for your listening pleasure today, you may want to follow the link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31lXaYTs9Sk) to hear Maya Buchanan play three short pieces:

Paganini - Caprice No. 5 (00:00)
J.S. Bach - Solo Sonata in C Major BWV 1005, (02:40) Largo and (06:08) Allegro assai
Reena Esmail - Darshan (Partita for Solo Violin), Charukeshi
