The Occupied New School Cafeteria

The Occupied New School Cafeteria

In May 2018, we occupied the New School Cafeteria, producing food to serve to the people and defending the livelihoods of the cafeteria's staff.

Two and a half years ago we stood up with cafeteria workers facing termination.

Tomorrow, the board of trustees and their new president will be firing 122 workers on the basis of a unilateral decision that did not take any worker organizations feedback or considerations into account. This is the vilest form of austerity politics and it is being carried out with no regard for the lives of New School workers and the stated values of the university.

We need to stand up once again and demand that the university reverse this decision and give students and all labor units a real say in decision that affect us. We need to put pressure on our colleagues and teachers to unify and directly confront the board and president.

The New School Labor Coalition has put out the following call: https://mailchi.mp/ddf6e26d2dc9/new-school-slashes-staff?e=bc9f075c07

This is a first step, but we learned our power as students and workers united and know that we can do more. Stay tuned for a mass student meeting!
