- “I chose Performance Studies at NYU because I was very interested in all aspects of theatre, and the fact that there was a major that studied all types of performance sounded perfect! I was drawn to the way the program gives you the classes and resources to be able to explore both with peers and professors in/outside of the classes, but how it is often very encouraged for you to explore on your own in/outside of the classroom as well! PS also helps you decide what you want to narrow in on as the semesters go by, through classes, events, and chances to connect with different communities. I’m excited to keep learning more about performance,” AJ King, B.A. Student. Learn more about what AJ and our other B.A. students are working on at PS using the students link in our bio!

NYC is filled with so many incredible museums, galleries, and archives that often serve as the “classroom” for many of our courses in the form of class field trips! What exhibitions are you hoping to attend this summer? We can’t wait to see what sites around the city our classes get to visit this Fall! If you are looking for a B.A. or M.A. program that encourages students to explore performance beyond the classroom and to engage with the exhilarating city that is surrounding them look no further than PS! Sign up to attend one of our info sessions this summer to learn more about the opportunities our program has to offer students. RSVP to attend one of our info sessions on June 17th at the link in our bio!

- PS M.A. Candidates Denisse Griselda Reyes and Melia Efstratis Chendo will present the second iteration of “Get on the Couch,” a performance they first shared during Praxis in March 2026 at CPR – Center for Performance Research on Saturday, June 13th at 7:30pm.
This performance stages the psychoanalytic session as a live, unstable encounter between two bodies shifting positions of authority and vulnerability. Drawing on psychoanalytic and performance theory, the session constructs an analytic space in which transference, projection, and free association are activated and made visible. Through role-play and improvised dialogue, the tension of the analytic duo is explored as a relational happening.
Chendo and Reyes experiment with camera feedback to further destabilize the fixed binary of the looking analyst/seen patient. A live video feed mirrors the session, emphasizing the role of delay and repetition in meaning-making. Together, Chendo and Reyes perform analysis as a mutual, contingent process rather than a unidirectional cure.

- PS Alum Ruhee Lee (M.A. ’25) presented her first solo performative exhibition in New York at Flohaus Gallery on May 31, 2026.
With a background in contemporary movement and an M.A. in Performance Studies, Ruhee is an interdisciplinary artist working across performance and installation. Her work expands choreographic inquiry beyond the human body, exploring how movement resonates through material objects and spatial forms.
Her latest exhibition centers on a fundamental question: “Where does movement exist after it leaves the body?”
The installation takes the form of a sliding puzzle—an object designed to be continuously shifted and rearranged. While traditional puzzles aim for a single, completed image, her work emphasizes perpetual transformation and collective authorship.
Congratulations, Ruhee! To learn more about the exhibition follow the news link in our bio.

- Monika Błaszczak (PS M.A. ‘24) is premiering a new work “Forefathers’ Eve II” commissioned by Polish Dance Theatre on June 19, 2026. The show will also be presented at the Malta Festival on June 22.
About “Forefathers’ Eve II”
In Adam Mickiewicz’s “Forefathers’ Eve II”, we meet foreign souls and our own shadows: while following the play’s characters, we encounter ourselves, entangled in ambiguous desires and searching for connection. The ritual described by the Polish bard becomes a space of encounter between the living and the un/dead, as well as an opportunity to renew human connection within the safe confines of a staged encounter. Bodies set into motion during the ritual create a time-space to which we invite all peculiar absences and presences. We invite you as well: join the ritual to experience it anew!
Monika Błaszczak is a Polish-Łemko dancer and choreographer based in Berlin. Originally trained as a professional ballerina, she later transitioned to experimental and anti-disciplinary approaches to dance. She is the founder of Monika’s Dance World, established in 2025.

- The major requires the completion of 40 credits of coursework, including 20 credits of required coursework and 20 credits of major elective coursework. Majors in Performance Studies are also required to minor in a related field. However, due to the flexibility of the program’s structure, students are able to double-major in another department at the College of Arts and Sciences. Majors can apply to double-major in eligible departments within Tisch as well. Learn more about how the B.A. in Performance Studies can support your academic goals at our next info session on June 17th RSVP at the link in our bio!
