📣✨ CUNY/UA had an amazing morning with Deputy Mayor for Community Safety, Rita Francois! Students from MECA, Maker, and ECHEM courageously shared their perspectives, experiences, and concerns about gun violence and mental health in their communities.

Their voices reminded us that young people are not only affected by these issues—they are powerful advocates for change. Thank you to Deputy Mayor Francois for taking the time to listen, engage in meaningful dialogue, and elevate student voice as we work together to build safer, healthier communities for all.

📚 MTSS NYC READS - Day 2

Over 100 educators from 45 CUNY/UA schools came together to deepen their understanding of MTSS, literacy instruction, and the Science of Reading.

Through gallery walks, vocabulary word walls, jigsaws, and exploring prefixes and suffixes, participants focused on building background knowledge and strengthening student comprehension. The day emphasized clear explanations, meaningful connections, vocabulary development, rigorous questioning, and effective summarization.

Together, we are building the conditions to ensure every student becomes a successful reader before graduation.

Today, tomorrow, next week, and beyond, over 100 educators and leaders from 45 citywide schools across the CUNY/UA network are coming together to strengthen MTSS, deepen reading strategies, and advance the Science of Reading in support of more than 20,000 students.

This work is about ensuring every student has access to the literacy support they need to thrive and graduate as confident readers, thinkers, and leaders. Through collaboration, shared learning, and a commitment to equity, we continue building systems that support all learners across NYC.
