Join the International Summit Council for Peace Webinar
Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 9 am Eastern - 6 am Pacific
HJI Alumni, Dr. Tajeldin Hamad, President of UPF International, and Dr. Franco Famularo, Chairman of UPF Canada, and Director of the International Summit Council for Peace, are convening a special webinar on "The Future of the Rules-Based Global Order" featuring several very distinguished former heads of state, including H.E. Goodluck Jonathan, former President of Nigeria; H.E. Gloria Arroyo, former President of the Philippines; H.E. Anthony Carmona, former President of Trinidad and Tobago; and H.E. Jose Manuel Barroso, former Prime Minister of Portugal.
The role and function of the rules-based global order as it has stood for the last 80 or so years is being challenged. What is the way forward in the context of international law, political realities, and the role of global institutions? There is a growing awareness among people throughout the world of the urgent need for innovative vision and bold leadership if we are to resolve the critical issues of our time. With this in mind, the International Summit Council for Peace convenes global leaders whose shared experience, wisdom, and insight are essential to building a world grounded in interdependence, mutual prosperity, and universal values.

What a pleasure it is for me to be with you today and to receive an honorary doctorate from this wonderful institution. There are few moments in life as exhilarating, hopeful, and, yes, even a little bittersweet as a graduation ceremony.
It is the occasion when intellectual passion, hard work, late nights, financial sacrifice, doubt and belief, ambition, and exhaustion all come together in a marvelous culminating achievement.
Just a short time from now, with your diploma in hand, you will be able to exhale and, with a big smile and perhaps a pumped fist, say, “I did it!!!!”
Dr. Katrina Lantos Swett was the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate during HJI’s 2026 Commencement Ceremonies held on May 23, 2026, at 481 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY.
