Six Columbia Engineering students have been named 2026–2027 Fulbright U.S. Student Grant recipients!

Gitika Gorthi BS’26, Eden Knapp BS’26, Sumer Moudgill BS’26, Emilia Topp-Johnson MS’26, Lili Boenigk SEAS'24, and Alon Levin PhD’27 will head abroad to conduct independent research and graduate studies, exploring everything from organ transplantation and solar sail technology to gravitational-wave detection.

Every spring, Columbia Engineering seniors cap off their undergraduate experience by tackling real-world challenges through design, innovation, and teamwork. At the 2026 Senior Design Expo more than 220 students showcased capstone projects spanning medicine, mobility, AI, and urban infrastructure.

From an AI-powered hand-washing coach being tested at a hospital in Pasadena to a self-transfer wheelchair lift that gives users greater independence, the Class of 2026 demonstrated what it means to Engineer for Humanity.⚒️

Columbia Engineering's annual Reunion brought alumni from around the globe back to Morningside Campus, May 28–30, for three days of celebration.

CEAA medalists Dr. Martin Chalfie, Raymond P. Daddazio BS'75, MS'76, EngScD'82, and Azmi T. Mikati BS'94 were honored for their distinguished contributions at the Welcome Dinner, with faculty member Harry West receiving the Great Teacher Award at a reception sponsored by The Society of Columbia Graduates.

The weekend also featured faculty lectures, lab tours, and a Starlight Celebration on Low Plaza to mark the end of the 2026 Reunion.

Congratulations to Columbia Engineering Professor Henning Schulzrinne on receiving the 2026 IEEE INFOCOM Achievement Award, the highest honor presented by the INFOCOM community for contributions to networking technologies and systems.

Schulzrinne was recognized for pioneering work in Internet multimedia communication, including protocols that helped enable VoIP, multimedia streaming, and modern teleconferencing.

The University of Notre Dame recently conferred an honorary doctor of engineering degree on Mary Boyce — professor of mechanical engineering and dean emerita of Columbia Engineering— at its 2026 Commencement. She also delivered the Graduate School Commencement keynote on May 16.

During her tenure as dean, she transformed Columbia Engineering, attracting exceptional talent and elevating the school to be among the top engineering programs in the nation.

Congratulations to this year’s CEAA medalists, recognized by the Columbia Engineering Alumni Association (CEAA) for their lasting impact in engineering and beyond.

Raymond P. Daddazio BS'75, MS'76, EngScD'82 was awarded the Thomas Egleston Medal for Distinguished Engineering Achievement.

Martin Chalfie, University Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Columbia University, received the Michael Pupin Medal for Service to the Nation in Engineering, Science, or Technology Beyond the Candidate’s Professional Field.

Azmi T. Mikati BS'94 won the Samuel Johnson Medal for Distinguished Achievement Beyond Engineering and Applied Science.

The medalists will be honored at the Columbia Reunion 2026 Dean’s Alumni Welcome Dinner on May 28.
