From political economy student to software engineer and entrepreneur, Onye Ohiaeri ’21 built a career by embracing the unexpected.

After earning his MS in Computer Science from Pace Universitys Seidenberg School, Onye built his career at companies including Code and Theory, Take-Two Interactive, and Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios before launching his own startup, Cheqmate. Today, he’s applying the same problem-solving mindset and technical expertise to building new solutions and creating opportunities of his own.

His journey is a reminder that success isn’t always linear—and that persistence, curiosity, and initiative can open unexpected doors.

Only months after its launch, the Gale Epstein Center for Technology, Policy and the Environment is already helping turn student innovation into action 🌎

A team of Seidenberg students recently secured $12,000 in funding to develop a business incubator that will expand public access to environmental data and technology tools through Blue CoLab, a nonprofit initiative connected to the Center’s mission. Combined with events like the Center’s first Student Environmental Congress, these efforts are empowering Pace University students to advance sustainability, environmental transparency, and environmental justice.
