Got to do some cool things for the Japanese State Lunch today. Loved these vellum overlays. I did the calligraphed place cards in traditional vermillion Japanese sumi ink - but check out the origami crane place card holders. I folded 300 of them for todays’s event. Did it take a long time? Yes. Was it worth it? 💯 oh! And I even met the lovely too. Just another day at the office 😄

Hard to believe it’s October and hard to believe that it’s been 10 months since I moved from NYC to DC. It’s been a big adjustment but like the post says, I have been “falling slowly” for our new city and it’s finally starting to feel like home. Now that life has settled down some, it’s time to get back to cozy evenings writing at my desk and playing with all my pens and inks. On deck tonight ’ and

As soon as I got the Down the Rabbit Hole ink from , I knew I had to use it for the surprise 45th wedding anniversary party we threw for my parents. That rose gold shimmer with the periwinkle base is just 😍. It wrote like a dream and I love how it catches the light. Obsessed - but maybe not as obsessed as my adorable parents are still with each other after 45 years.

Whyyyyyy do I this to myself? 🤦🏽♀️ a long time ago, I was very kindly given a vintage Zanerian fine writer nib. I kept it so safe and hidden away, I forgot about it. Until tonight. And curiosity got the better of me. Now here we are. A nib I can’t get more of, but one I don’t want to stop using. Oh, the heartbreak of falling for a vintage nib. Of course there are other modern nibs that are wonderful. Or even other less rare vintage nibs. I know this. But in the back of my head from now on, I will always compare it to this one. Sigh. Whoever said “it was better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all…”. I disagree 😫🥹😆. TL:DR - don’t fall down the vintage nib rabbit hole. . . . . .

Client work: Much of the time, a client will simply ask me to copy a font used on an invitation design when addressing their envelopes. But sometimes a client will ask me for suggestions and I am more than happy to oblige. It’s a fun creative exercise for me to try to interpret the client’s vision. Today’s ask was for something very clean with minimal flourishes and not “too girly”. They didn’t know if they wanted a script or a block letter style or if they wanted classic or modern hand. In cases like this, I create a menu to help them choose. Here were some options I sent off to them.

Spent the weekend crying over an onion 😂. I took process shots this time because there is ALWAYS a point where I want to throw it out and start all over again and I need the visual reminder that you just gotta be patient and keep going.
