Happy Father's Day to the dads like Amar Nanugonda who represent the spirit of the Red Cross mission of compassion and humanitarianism and pass on that spirit to his children.
Amar was recently awarded the Volunteer Services Award at the Long Island Red Cross recognition event for his leadership in helping to recognize the years of service in his fellow volunteers and for his willingness to be ready to help his community during times of disaster.

Every day, families are separated because of conflict, migration, disasters, or other emergencies. When that happens, our Restoring Family Links team does everything they can to reunite them, including Sujata Pokharel, who has been supporting this work since last year.
Sujata grew up in Nepal during the country's civil war. Her family didn't become separated during this time, but she witnessed the emotional toll others experienced who weren't as lucky.
“Family is very important in my culture. Everyone in my village felt like family,” Sujata said. “So, when I see people who have lost contact with their loved ones, it is sad."
Even with a full plate — graduate school and an international internship — Sujata makes time to help others. Giving back isn’t just something she does, it’s something she believes in.
“Growing up Hindu, service is an important part of life,” Sujata said. “Even when I am busy, I make sure to devote some time to seva.”
