For Haidara, education represented hope and possibility.

Originally from Northeastern Syria, he was pursuing degrees in Biology and English when conflict changed the course of his life. Despite the challenges of war, he completed his studies—but unlike most graduates, he never had the opportunity to begin the career he had worked so hard for.

Faced with mandatory military service and the realities of the conflict, Haidara was forced to flee Syria. Over the next six years in Lebanon, he navigated life as a displaced Syrian, facing uncertainty, discrimination, and barriers to stable employment.

In 2020, Haidara joined NaTakallam. Through teaching Arabic, he found not only a source of income, but also a meaningful way to share his language, culture, and experiences with learners around the world.
Every lesson is more than language learning—it’s a connection that creates opportunity and preserves culture. ❤️

Marking both Pride and Refugee Month, June is a critical month for global recognition, awareness and solidarity.

Over 108 million people worldwide are forcibly displaced, and even when official refugee status is finally registered, the average refugee spends 20 years in limbo before finding a durable resettlement solution.

For LGBTQI+ refugees, this intersectionality often results in further inequitable treatment.

This June, choose language learning that changes lives, for you and your tutors from displaced and conflict-affected backgrounds: natakallam.com/languages

Wrapping up an inspiring week at Deliver 2026 🌍✨

NaTakallam was proud to provide live interpretation in French, Spanish, and International Sign Language — helping make feminist dialogue more multilingual, accessible, and inclusive.

One message echoed throughout the week: the future of feminist movements depends on who gets to participate — and in what language.

From Wurundjeri dancers grounding the gathering in Indigenous custodianship, to conversations centered on localization, decolonization, and bottom-up power structures, this week reminded us that accessibility is not an add-on — it’s essential infrastructure for global dialogue.

Because global conversations only work when everyone can truly be heard — and understood. 💬

🇵🇸 Palestinian mother with her child from al-Khalil, 1930s, photographed by Khalil Raad. The mother wears a thobe adorned with 𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘇 (𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗰: تَطْرِيز), the centuries-old Palestinian art of hand-stitched embroidery.

Worked in red thread on linen, tatreez has long reflected ties to place, family, and heritage. Its motifs and color palettes often point to specific villages and regions, carrying histories and traditions from one generation to the next.
