Nokuthula Ngwenyama joined Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, and Anna Polonsky to open the 14th season of the Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival Sunday at Colchester’s Elley-Long Music Center. Her new work, "Elegy", proved most memorable. According to The Times Argus, it "is a 12-minute work 'mourning the souls lost to systemic racism.' Still, the work proved to be no funeral dirge, rather a complex and deeply touching celebration of humanity that recognizes its tragedy and celebrates its triumph."
The creation of "Elegy", written for The Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, was made possible with the support of Linton Chamber Music (Commissioned in Memory of Carol and Harry Hoffheimer) [world premiere], Brattleboro Music Center, Hudson Valley Chamber Music Circle, Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival, Chamber Music Tulsa, The John F. Kennedy Center Abe Fortas Memorial Fund, Chamber Music Northwest, Chamber Music Monterey Bay, Arizona Friends of Chamber Music - AFCM, Phoenix Chamber Music Society, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, and Peoples' Symphony Concerts, through the International Arts Foundation, Inc.
