What happens when music meets technology?
Last week, students from One World Middle School (Bronx), P.S./M.S. 138 (Brooklyn), and ReStart Academy (Queens) spent the day at Google exploring the intersection of music, creativity, AI, and innovation.
Building on ETM’s partnership with YouTube and TED-Ed’s Think Like a Musician series, students experimented with music-making through vibe coding and AI alongside YouTube volunteers, discovering new ways technology can inspire creativity and self-expression.
Thank you to Google, YouTube, and ETM Board Member Waleed Diab for making this incredible experience possible! 🎶✨

🎶 300+ students. 8 schools. One stage. 🎶
On June 10, the District 11 & Education Through Music (ETM) choir festival - 11 Out Loud: Uplifting Student Voices! - brought together over 300 student voices from across New York City Public Schools for a powerful day of music-making at Lehman College.
This marked our first large-scale student festival since before the pandemic, and the energy, creativity, and joy on stage made it worth the wait. From solo moments to full-ensemble performances, students showcased the impact of daily music education in their schools.
✨ Participating schools included: PS 357 Young Voices Academy, PS 96, PS 169 Baychester Academy, PS 105, PS 121, PS/MS 498 Van Nest Academy, P.S. 103, and MS 180.
A special thank you to our partners at District 11, under the leadership of Superintendent Cristine Vaughan, New York State Assemblymember Jeffrey Dinowitz, and our incredible school leaders and music educators.
🎤 A highlight of the day was the finale sing-along led by guest conductor Kristin Marchilena, bringing all students together in a joyful celebration of community and music.
💛 Thank you to everyone who helped make this unforgettable festival possible.

This spring, thousands of students across New York City are stepping onto the stage for their school concerts after a year of music in their classrooms.
What looks simple on stage is the result of months of learning, practice, and steady guidance happening long before the performance.
For Kaela, that work shows up in choir: “I feel like I’ve become more of a leader in my class because I’m in the choir.”
Moments like this are happening in classrooms across the city, week after week, shaping how students see themselves long before they ever step onto a stage.
And today is , a reminder that support already set aside can be put to work right away for students in classrooms like these, especially as we approach the end of our fiscal year on June 30.

As the school year comes to a close, thousands of students at ETM partner schools are ending the year with greater confidence, academic growth, and a deeper sense of belonging through music education.
For one fourth-grade student at PS 206 in Queens, choir helped transform stage fright into self-assurance and connection.
“When we sing together,” Marielle says, “it feels like my classroom is my music family.”
As public funding priorities continue to shift, access to arts education remains at risk for many students and schools. Your support helps ensure music programs not only continue, but grow to reach even more children across New York City.
