Speaking at the UN Human Rights Council at UN Geneva, he warned of “very serious human rights challenges” and “an unprecedented, shameless onslaught against international law” that is causing appalling human suffering.
“We must call it out, every time and everywhere, and work to contain and end it.”

The UN Human Rights Council works to advance human rights worldwide, helping ensure everyone enjoys the protections guaranteed by international law and supporting those whose rights have been denied.
Made up of 47 countries elected by the General Assembly for three-year terms, the Council addresses human rights violations and issues recommendations to help resolve them. It also reviews the human rights records of all 193 UN member countries — the only process of this kind in existence.
