To cap off a year of ingenuity and invention, Fieldston Middle 8th Graders faced off against a panel of “sharks” to pitch products created in Engineering class!

The project pairs the design thinking skills students practice in Engineering with real-world math and public speaking skills, as students prototype a product, complete a valuation of their mock business, and present a compelling sales pitch to a panel of peers, teachers, and other ECFS community members. Head to the link in our stories to read more about the project!

From reminiscing on the new friendships they forged in Fieldston Upper to reminding their fellow graduates to pause, breathe, and enjoy the memories of their time at ECFS, our Commencement 2026 student speakers filled the Quad with thoughtful and celebratory reflections.

Missed the livestream? Hudson, Saskia, and Kiran’s full speeches are now available to watch on the ECFS YouTube channel!

Yesterday, we celebrated graduation for the 5th Grade classes of Ethical Culture and Fieldston Lower! We sent both classes off with singing, speeches, and skits that celebrated the unique experience these students have had in their time at ECFS. These special events mark a transition in students’ lives as our community members recognize the leadership they’ve brought to our Lower Divisions and wish them well as they move on to become middle schoolers. Congratulations to our graduates!

On Saturday, we welcomed Fieldston Alumni from classes ending in 1’s and 6’s back to campus for their Fieldston Reunion!

Alumni swapped stories, poured over yearbooks and photo albums, and reminisced about the good memories they had on campus. As the sun set, the Class of 1976 even treated us to an impromptu rendition of “Iam Canamus,” which rang out over the Quad. Moments like these wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our reunion volunteers and Fieldston Alumni Network. Eagles, we loved having you back. See you in 5 years!

Students in Fieldston Upper’s Applied Engineering Research class spent the year ideating, prototyping, and manufacturing their own inventions, each of which is designed to solve a problem in the world.

Ranging from low-tech study timers to ergonomic airplane seats, the inventions were often a labor of love for the students, informed by their particular passions and life experiences. For many in the class, the project was also a culmination of their engineering career at Fieldston, as this year’s senior class was the first to take the full 7th-12th Grade engineering curriculum at Fieldston Middle and Upper. Check out Tuesday’s edition of Fieldnotes to learn more about each invention and the engineers who created them!
