SHSAT 2021

We’re thrilled to be returning to in-person learning this summer (with strict COVID safety protocols in place).

SMITH STREET WORKSHOP will be offering two in-person SHSAT prep course options, as well as in-person proctored practice tests beginning in July. We are also offering an online course for students who are traveling or prefer to take the class at home.

SHSAT SUMMER INTENSIVE WORKSHOP (1 WEEK COURSE)

Days: Monday through Friday, 9:30 to 12:30
Location: SMITH STREET WORKSHOP - 104 First Place (Carroll Gardens)
Weeks: 7/12, 7/19, 8/9, 8/16
Pricing: $600+ $40 Materials fee

ONLINE SUMMER BRIDGE SHSAT PREP COURSE (5 WEEK COURSE)
Days: Mondays, 4:30 to 6:30
Weeks: July 12- August 9th
Pricing: $400+ $20 Materials fee

IN-PERSON PRACTICE SHSAT TESTS: We are also offering in-person, proctored practice SHSAT tests this summer, which provide students the opportunity to become familiar with the format of the test, practice pacing strategies, identify content areas/skills to work on, and most importantly, to learn from their mistakes!

SMITH STREET WORKSHOP is a tutoring, educational enrichment center in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. We provide individual and group tutoring for students in pre-k through high school, as well as Common Core and SHSAT test prep.

We are so grateful to the amazing teachers we have at the workshop, who have worked so hard to make sure their students feel supported, cared for, and engaged during such a tumultuous time. Julie, one of our treasured teachers, has been a true star 🌟✨💫We asked her to share her reflections on the past year:

"The one thing I knew in August about this school year was that it would not look like anything any of us had ever experienced. I decided to leave the school where I was employed, told the Workshop I was open to taking on any student, and hoped for the best. The experiment began with a multi-age, multi-grade pod that first met in students’ Carroll Gardens backyards and then at The Workshop once everything was in place. Fast forward to May, where I was juggling a weekly schedule of fifteen students, ages 4-11, pre-K to 5th grade, traveling to students’ homes in Manhattan, Brooklyn Heights, and Ditmas Park as well as sessions at The Workshop, where students also feel very much at home (some kick off their shoes upon entry at the front door). How incredibly rewarding it has been to have the opportunity to work with such a wide range of children in so many different subject areas and skills, to support and/or extend what they have been learning in schools, to explore their interests and opinions, and expand their ideas and curiosity together. I knew how important it would be for students particularly this year to feel secure and stable, and to have a safe space to express themselves given the unpredictability of life around us, which any day could mean a school or classroom closure, or a positive COVID test or exposure. While the masks covered most of our faces as physical barriers, they did not stop us from developing strong bonds of trust and friendship, joyfully learning and creating, and celebrating one another’s birthdays and accomplishments. I am so appreciative to the families of my students for their partnership and support, and for all the lessons I learned this year from their truly inspiring children."

We are currently enrolling Kindergarten and a 1st/2nd grade mixed age group for the fall of 2021. By September 2022, we will welcome 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade classes as well as 6th grade for the first year of our middle school program.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Hello and happy spring greetings from Smith Street Workshop! We've packed up our winter coats and are welcoming the new season with open arms.

With spring finally here and summer approaching, we've had many parents reach out wondering how they can create structure and keep their students engaged and productive during the final stretch of this challenging school year.

At the Workshop, we remain committed to providing academic support and enrichment for students during remote, in-person, and hybrid mode instruction. This spring and summer, we are proud to offer high-quality tutoring, online courses, and in-person summer camp options for our pre-K-12 students. Whether you are looking for academic support to help your student fill in the gaps from a year of Zoom learning, preparing for high school or college admissions, or looking for summer activities, we're here to help! We invite you to lean on us, explore our online resources, schedule calls with us, and email any questions or concerns about your child's social, emotional, and academic well-being.

Many of you have also reached out with questions about changes in standardized testing and admissions policies. With the pandemic producing monumental changes in our educational landscape, we understand that it has been a confusing time for families.
