Calhoun School

The Senior Work program gives Calhoun seniors the opportunity to step beyond the classroom and into the professional world. This spring, the Class of 2026 completed internships and went on “career excursion” trips across New York City visiting different workplaces, learning from professionals in a wide range of fields, and gaining firsthand experience in different career paths. Thank you to all the mentors, hosts, and organizations who shared their time and expertise with our students.

Our Kindergarten Moving Up Ceremony celebrated a joyful year of learning, creativity, and community. With performances that showcased their music skills, students marked this important milestone before taking the next step in their Lower School journeys. Congratulations to our Kindergarteners as they move on to 1st grade at Calhoun!

Congratulations to the Class of 2030! As they complete their Middle School years, we celebrate our 8th graders’ growth and impact on the Calhoun community. We are so proud of all they have accomplished and look forward to seeing them continue their journeys in Upper School.

Middle School, here they come! Our 4th graders marked an important milestone at this year’s Moving Up Ceremony and Concert, celebrating all they’ve accomplished in Lower School and the exciting journey ahead in Middle School. We are so proud of them and can’t wait to see all they will do in the years to come. Congratulations to the Class of 2034 on this special milestone!

Our student-athletes showed determination and teamwork across every level of competition throughout the spring season and into playoffs. The BNB Baseball team finished second in the NYCAL League, highlighted by an incredible comeback victory in the semifinals to earn a spot in the championship game. BNB Volleyball also finished second in the league and went on to compete in the NYSAIS State Tournament, delivering impressive performances throughout the postseason.

The GNB Softball team made school history with Calhoun’s first-ever softball playoff appearance, while the GNB Track & Field team placed third overall at the NYCAL Championships. Every member of the track & field team competed at the championships, and several athletes went on to represent Calhoun at the NYSAIS State Championships. The BNB Tennis team rounded out the season with a strong showing at the all-day NYCAL Tournament.

For more than 30 years, Egg Drop has been one of Calhoun’s most beloved traditions. This annual challenge invites 7th grade students to design, build, and test contraptions that can safely carry a raw egg from a seventh-floor window to 81st Street below them using only tissue paper, straws, toothpicks, and glue. This interdisciplinary project combines physics, creativity, and problem-solving as our students spent weeks working on their designs. This year, every single egg landed safely! It was a remarkable achievement and a testament to the budding engineering skills of our 7th graders. Congratulations to the 7th grade on a successful Egg Drop!

Congratulations, Calhoun Class of 2026! We are proud of all you have achieved and grateful for the ways you have shaped our community. We look forward to seeing all that you accomplish, and we hope you’ll always find your way back to Calhoun.

Join us in celebrating fourth grader Sebastian S. on earning a silver medal in the Spring National Beestar Math Competition! Sebastian competed against approximately 1,000 students from across the country. We are proud to see him challenge himself, excel in mathematics, and represent the Calhoun community so well. Congratulations, Sebastian!
