Plant Spotlight: Wisteria frutescens (American Wisteria)

Dreaming of a trellis covered in cascading purple blooms? Meet American Wisteria (Wisteria frutescens)—a beautiful, native alternative that brings all the charm without the harm. 🌸

While many landscapes feature the well-known Wisteria sinensis, this non-native species can quickly become invasive—spreading aggressively, crowding out native plants, and even strangling surrounding vegetation. 🌱

Why choose American Wisteria?
💜 Native to the Southeastern United States
🌸 Produces similar stunning purple blooms
🌱 Grows more responsibly alongside other plants
🦋 Supports a healthier, balanced ecosystem

Though it blooms a bit later in the season, American Wisteria offers the same visual impact while being a much better neighbor in your garden. 🌿

🌱 If you’re looking to add this classic look to your space, check out native plant nurseries and opt for the American species!
