Our goal is to create at least 10 new mentor-student matches before the start of the school year. Will you help us make that happen?

Please sign up by July 3 so we can hold a mentor training class in July and have mentors ready to meet with students at the start of the school year.

Practicing reading is just like practicing a musical instrument or practicing a sport. We only get better the more we practice! Research will show that students that read 600 minutes per month achieve at higher levels. This is about 20 minutes per day. Since we know this, we'd like to challenge each of our students to read 600 minutes per month (20 minutes per day) this summer. Please log your reading minutes on any sheet of paper, tell us what you read, and have a parent sign it verifying you read. For those students that do this, we will have a celebration in August!

If you struggle with reading fluently, repeatedly read passages this summer and you will become more fluent. Set a timer and read as quickly as you can for one minute. Reread that same segment of a passage several times. You will see your fluency (words per minute) increase dramatically. The more fluent we are, the less energy our brains have to use on sounding out the words. We can understand what we are reading easily and that is the whole purpose of reading!

If you are a parent of a student that is not reading yet, read to your child this summer and these minutes count. Have them follow along while you slide your finger under the words as you read them. Kids are so smart and will learn to decode all of those crazy symbols we call letters.

Our Westmont Elementary library is open every Thursday this summer from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. for those that want to stop by and check out some great books. Enter the library from the lower level media doors. We'd love to see everyone come get some great books!

We celebrated our Godfather's Pizza Be Nice Earn a Slice recipients Monday! Congratulations!! Thanks for being such terrific students!

Today was our last day of school and it was quite a day. We had our last school award assembly, took an all school photo, played BINGO, awarded some Wildcat of the Week awards, played our annual 6th grade vs. teachers game, had a picnic lunch, autographed yearbooks, and our 6th graders did their final walk up that ramp and out the front door. We wish them well and know they will do great things at PC next year. We are exhausted and want to wish everyone the best summer vacation. Be safe! ENJOY!!

Westmont Elementary would like to congratulate these students on setting new records for our track and field day! Way to go!!!!!

We absolutely LOVE this day! Our kids come home! Westmont Elementary staff spend 7 and sometimes 9 years with our students and today they came back to see us and walk one more time up and down that RAMP! It brings back so many memories! We are so thankful for each and every one of them. They even went down and played with the parachute in the gym with Mr. Hisek one more time. Enjoy a few snapshots of their visit.
