Meet Luis Tineo — and the moment that changed everything

When Luis Tineo Zavarce was trying to figure out his next step after high school, he kept running into closed doors. Until he called Valencia College.

One caring 💕 staff member took the time to walk him through everything, step-by-step, even calling him the next day to check in. That simple act of kindness made a lasting impact. “It made me feel really welcome,” Luis says. “I knocked on the doors, and they completely opened wide.”

Fast forward to today… Luis is now a Supervisor of Student Development programs at our Poinciana Campus — helping create the same welcoming experience for students who may be feeling just like he once did.

Congrats to Carter Aide and Angelia Ramsay McKay, two Valencia College spring 2026 graduates who were featured in the Community Paper Orlando. Carter, who received his Associate of Science in Culinary Management and Angelia, our oldest graduate, who received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, shared their journeys and wise counsel for all walks of life.

Today is National Mascot Day, and we are to celebrate our Valencia College mascot — Purrcy the Puma! A puma embodies the qualities of Valencia College students — strength, resilience, determination to overcome obstacles and perseverance.

Kudos to Valencia College - Accelerated Skills Training Electrical Technician graduate Garrett Accomando for earning several top honors at the American Public Power Association (APPA) 2026 Lineworkers Rodeo in Huntsville, Alabama. Garrett is now a Line Technician III with the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) and showed top-notch skills and workmanship throughout the .

APPA’s Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo is held annually, bringing together electric utility lineworkers from across the country. Participants are judged on safety, work practices, neatness, ability, equipment handling and timely event completion. Overall, 61 journeymen teams and 56 utilities from 20 states participated in this year’s rodeo. Read more: https://bit.ly/49VtHw2

We are of Matthew Estevez, a recent student and who was recognized as a Spectrum Scholar for academic excellence and community service by Spectrum. Matthew graduated 👨‍🎓 from high school and earned his Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree from Valencia Collegeat the same time! 🎓👏
