We’re honored to be featured in this article showcasing the hard work, growth, and success of our students and staff. We couldn’t be more proud of our Jaguar family!

Take a look and see why we love Workman. πŸ§‘πŸ’™πŸ†

An email of appreciation to principal Derrick Thomas from a proud Workman Middle School parent:

"Dear Mr. Thomas,
I am so proud of you, admin, the teachers and all of the students.

My oldest daughter started at Workman the same year you did. She's over at Washington now, but my middle just promoted today and my youngest still has 2 more years with Workman.

When we moved here from California all of our neighbors warned us not to send our daughters to Workman. It was the middle of the school year, school choice had closed and we didn't have private school money. We sent our daughter to Workman and at the time it was a "D" school. I wasn't too concerned because I am an involved parent who has always believed education starts at home.

I have been blown away by Workman. I've never seen a more dedicated Principal- my kids come home telling me about pep talks you gave their class before the band performance or the big test. You truly inspire you students. You inspire your staff as well.

Watching you turn this school around has been an absolute pleasure. You have hired the best of the best teachers and managed more bumps in the road than should have been expected.

I am proud to have my I love Workman sign in my yard so all my neighbors who warned me against Workman can see it. My oldest at Washington has maintained a 3.7 and is in several honors and AP courses. My middle daughter will start Washington next year in honors and AP courses, she also got all 5's on her FAST and EOC algebra this year. My youngest will be at Workman for the next 2 years and she got all 5's on the end of year FAST. None of my children's success would be possible without Workman and without you as their leader.

This email has turned out lengthy and a bit cheesy, but I truly mean it. I hope you have a great summer and I'll see you next year!

Kind Regards,
Annabelle Kennedy "

Workman Middle School students had the opportunity to explore future career possibilities during a Career Awareness Fair held on Thursday, April 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The event welcomed 7th and 8th grade students, giving them the chance to speak directly with representatives from local businesses, community organizations, and career training programs. Students asked thoughtful questions, learned about different job opportunities in Escambia County, and gained a better understanding of the many pathways available to them after middle and high school.

Thirteen community organizations and local businesses participated in the fair, including ST Engineering, Navy Federal Credit Union, Air Design, Sunshine Health, Fishbein Orthodontics, Pensacola Police and Fire Departments, ECPS Workforce Education, and George Stone Technical College. Each organization shared information about their field, the skills needed for success, and the education or training students may need to pursue similar careers in the future.

β€œWe are proud of the job visibility that this event provided for our 7th and 8th graders,” said Principal Derrick Thomas. β€œWe appreciate all of the organizations and businesses that took the time to come and speak with our students.”

Introducing students to a variety of career possibilities at an early age is an important part of helping them imagine their futures. Events like the Career Awareness Fair allow students to discover careers they may not have considered before, connect their current learning to real-world goals, and begin thinking about the skills, education, and training that can help them succeed.

The Career Awareness Fair helped students connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities. By interacting with professionals from a variety of industries, students were able to see how their interests, strengths, and goals can lead to future careers right here in their own community.

Workman Middle School is grateful to all of the participating organizations and businesses for investing their time in our students and helping inspire the next generation of leaders, workers, and community contributors.
