Day #3 - My plan is not only for coding which is very much foundational. But to put pathways in place to connect with mentors, obtain free or very affordable devices, and create personalized plans and goals to obtain entry level IT jobs after high-school if college isn't an immediate option. Hello. I am trying to start an organization to help low income families gain access to coding and technology resources for their children.

Growing up in a low income family myself, I had a strong interest in computers and taught myself how to program, worked hard, and have a job in information technology.

I feel like there are so many young adults that are interested and capable but don’t have the resources to get started and get ahead.

My plan is to build a web portal and app with free training and online learning for families, and also put together learning paths which would connect these young people with companies and technology recruiters for entry level job placement. There would also be resources for finding affordable Internet access and computers/devices. Students would also be able to find a mentor who is already in the industry to help them along the way.

This would be for families who don’t have the money to send their children to college but want to level the playing field and allow their children to get their foot in the door with technology.

This funding would go towards creation of learning materials, building the website and app, marketing and outreach to get these materials into the hands of those that need it, and for providing devices to students that can’t afford them.
