We Teach for What's Next | Frankford Friends School is an independent, Quaker school located in Philadelphia. https://www.frankfordfriends.org
For students age 2–Kindergarten-ready (Fishtown) and preschool–8th grade (Frankford). FFS is a Quaker school that children love. Our students explore, problem-solve, and work together to expand their understanding of themselves and the world beyond. Children of all faiths and all ethnic, racial, and economic backgrounds are welcomed to our community. As a Friends school, we look for the Light in e
veryone and help children to discover how they can uniquely shine. Through learning who they are and developing respect for the gifts and strengths of others, our students grow the courage and confidence to sustain and improve their world. They learn that no one accomplishes great things alone – we all work together to learn, to create, and to serve our community. FFS embodies the Friends testimonies of simplicity and the careful stewardship of resources, offering the lowest tuition of any Friends school in the region. Our students learn to appreciate the beauty of these testimonies, developing strong core values through meaningful projects and regular opportunities for quiet reflection and thoughtful discussion. Our outstanding academic program prepares our graduates to thrive in the selective public and private high schools they attend. Frankford Friends School’s curriculum emphasizes the 21st century skills of critical thinking, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving. Whether learning to code a robot in the Innovation Workshop, helping a younger child build a structure at the Nature Learning Lab, or conducting research for the Frankford Historical Society, hands-on learning helps children to grow cognitively, emotionally, socially, and physically. Frankford Friends School students are intellectually curious, engaged, and care deeply about each other and the world outside of themselves. They become adults who use their strengths and passions to make the world a better place. Frankford Friends School has an enrollment of 160 students and is under the care of Frankford Monthly Meeting. It is located in the Frankford Section of Philadelphia. Our students come from every neighborhood in the city. Our curriculum includes twice-weekly explorations into science and engineering, music, strings, art, Spanish, physical education, and service learning. FFS is financially stable with a budgeted surplus, operating reserves, and property reserves. Financial aid is available from a number of external sources. In 2016, construction on The NEST (for Nature, Exploration, Science, and Technology Investigations) was completed, consisting of The Innovation Workshop, The Media Studio, and The Nature Learning Lab, which is a .45 acre space dedicated to outdoor exploration.

Wishing all of our FFS community a happy summer! We're sharing a few highlights of things you might've missed over the last few weeks of school.
River Otter Field Day is full of competition, laughter, and community. Students threw themselves into a full day of games organized by the 7th-grade class and Tr. Mark. The crowd went wild during the annual student-faculty dodgeball game! ☺️

Students at the ECC are having fun experimentingwith printmaking! Equipped with fruits, paint, rubber stamps, ink, and even their shoes, students are making their mark. They used different techniques—like pressing apples, oranges, and lemons into paint—to transfer patterns to paper. What's left is a unique piece of art that they share with their peers.

Move-Up Day brought a buzz of excitement as students got their first look at what's ahead for the 2026–27 school year — stepping into new classrooms, meeting their future teachers, and asking all the questions on their minds. There was plenty to look forward to: new reading adventures, mastering times tables, and for some, the irresistible appeal of brand-new building blocks.
Meanwhile, 5th graders got a front-row seat to middle school life as current middle schoolers took the stage for a student-led panel discussion. They tackled the big questions — how grading works, what study halls are really like, and the exciting leadership opportunities waiting for them in the building next year. It was the kind of honest, peer-to-peer conversation that makes a big transition feel a whole lot less daunting.

On your marks, get set… BALANCE! Our preschoolers are hard at work in PE, racing, climbing, and balancing their way to stronger gross motor skills, coordination, and body confidence. Big movers, big learners!
4th graders are leaning into the art of still life! In art class, fourth graders created still-life drawings inspired by their favorite stuffed animals. Students were excited to bring in a special toy from home to use as their subject—bears, robots, and even oversized Peep bunnies—made appearances in the art room. Using colored pencils, viewfinders, and watercolors, students brought stuffed animals to life on paper.

The Nest transformed into a dig site, where our preschoolers were practicing map-reading skills as they searched for dinosaurs, excavated the Nest, and tracked down their scaly companions. Along the way, they utilized collaborative teamwork, strengthened major motor skills, and soaked up some sunshine. Learning looks a lot like adventure around here!

Students at our Fishtown campus are sew-inspiring! 🧵 As part of their art exploration, preschoolers are strengthening fine motor skills by learning to embroider fabric. A new song helps them remember the steps and rhythm of a basic stitch — making the process as joyful as the finished piece. These are collaborative works of art, touched by many little hands before they're framed and displayed. We love what they're creating!
