๐ŸŽ™๏ธ On the , Dr. Neil Theise ( ) explains what the interstitium is and why it matters.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Dr. Theise was recently featured in โ€œThe New York Timesโ€ on this topic, which I highlight in the background of our conversation.

๐Ÿ’ฅIt turns out that the interstitium may have an effect on nearly every aspect of our understanding of the human body and health. Itโ€™s all connected.

๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ Comment โ€œpodโ€ below for the link to my full conversation with Dr. Theise.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Last weekend, The NYT Magazine published an aesthetically beautiful, interactive article, titled: โ€œInside the Interstitium, the Human Bodyโ€™s Hidden Pathways.โ€

๐Ÿ’ฅ The NYT said this about the piece: โ€œItโ€™s All Connected: Weโ€™ve known about two systems in the human body that circulate fluidsโ€ โ€” The lymphatic and cardiovascular systems.

๐Ÿ’ฅ โ€œNow scientists think they may have come across a thirdโ€ฆThe discovery โ€” a hidden pathway between two layers of tissue not know to connect in this way โ€” was a surprise. It has far reaching implications for our understanding of the human body & for our health. Because that interstitial space doesnโ€™t just exist between the skin & the fascia, researchers discovered. There are space like it throughout the body, forming pathways between organs, and allowing fluids, cells & molecules to move between them before re-entering the lymphatic & cardiovascular systems.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Scientists call this the interstitium.

๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Featured in the article & joining me on the podcast to discuss it in depth, is . He explains what the interstitium is, why it is important, how it works & how this marks the beginning of many exciting possibilities. Heโ€™s performed groundbreaking research on the interstitium, with a landmark study published in 2018 in Nature.

๐Ÿ’ฅ He explains how this discovery, opens up promising possibilities in how the interstitium might inform the treatment of diabetes, gut health & cancer, among others.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Interestingly, the interstitium may also begin to scientifically substantiate eastern modalities such as acupuncture, yoga & energy work.

๐Ÿ’ฅ As it turns out, the interstitium is also found in other forms of life, like tiny freshwater invertebrates & plants. Perhaps we are all more alike and interconnected than we once realized.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ On this episode of the : I believe that sports are a wonderful avenue, perhaps the most effective vehicle even, for kids and young adults to develop self confidence, work ethic along with mental and physical strength and realizing your potential.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Thatโ€™s just some of the many benefits I personally received from my time as an athlete. While I ended up reaching my goal of wrestling at a Division 1 college, there was also a dark, more negative side to sports, that I had to overcome as an adult and still have to be mindful of โ€” such as being extremely self-critical, to the point itโ€™s challenging to move forward with important decisions in life.

๐Ÿ’ฅ I can still remember coaches continually driving home the idea that I wasnโ€™t good enough. Or if I lost, how the adults involved would respond, would send me into a spiral.

๐Ÿ’ฅ How can one be sure to receive the undeniable benefits of sport, while avoiding the mental and psychological mistakes that can not only make you perform worse, but continue to haunt you after you retire from your sport and move onto the real world?

๐Ÿ’ฅ Can someone be both a fierce competitor and have self-compassion in sport? How can athletes develop mindfulness and be encouraging to themselves in competitive sports, where traditionally, the mindset has been to be self-critical or a perfectionist.

๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Joining me to discuss these topics is , a mindset coach, educator and speaker who helps athletes quiet their inner critic, handle pressure with poise, and bounce forward after mistakes. She is a former collegiate basketball player with a PhD in educational psychology, bringing both lived experience and research-backed tools to help athletes build lasting confidence in themselves and their performance.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Josh won back-to-back while breaking the course record this year with an astonishing 45:08 finish, which is a 4:30 mile pace. It marks the fastest 10-miler on American soil.

๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ He says that the buzz around the city and the energy the Philly crowds bring kept him pushing to the finish line. Itโ€™s the community and people that really make it a special race.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธToday on the , I have the honor to speak with back-to-back champion, .

๐Ÿ’ฅ Josh not only won the ten-mile race, but he did so in an impressive 45 minutes and 8 seconds. That is roughly a 4 minute and 30 second mile pace. This unbelievable performance not only set the course record, but it marked the fastest 10-miler ever ran on U.S. soil.

๐Ÿ’ฏ Josh joins me to discuss this amazing accomplishment. He explains what he believes makes the Broad Street Run unique. How he approached it to run the course 65 seconds faster than his winning time last year and what it meant to him to set the course record at the largest 10-miler on the country.

๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Nearly 40,000 runners raced down Broad Street, and Josh tells me what it was like to lead the pack, with huge crowds who came out to cheer and bring the energy that only Philly can provide.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Josh unpacks what he did differently to that allowed him to be aggressive on race day, how he stays consistent and dialed-in with his training and how his mentality and belief helped him run at his best.

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป Josh recently signed as a professional runner with and he is set to move closer to his family in the Philly / Jersey area with his fiancรฉe and dogs.
