MOTION VERSUS ACTION
In our professional and personal lives, it’s easy to keep moving. You can find any number of ways to stay in motion:
– New business owners can lose months poring over a logo design
– Leaders can lose weeks deciding which candidate to hire
– Job seekers can lose precious days updating a LinkedIn profile
All of those examples keep us in motion…but they’re not moving us anywhere. Picture a hamster on a wheel. The little guy can run all day, but he never gets anywhere. That’s motion, and motion is a very tricky thing. It can easily keep you stuck by tricking you into thinking you’re moving forward, when you’re actually just running on the hamster wheel.

As I feel the thaw of waters long frozen
I remember that all endings come from some beginning
And waiting at the altar of my soul I hear a voice
She’s saying...

Beings of immense joy,
we ascend from our ancestors’ shadows,
whose blood, sweat and persistence brought us forth.
In our multi-gendered hues, we remember them.
In our coming and our going, we remember them.
In our jubilation and our tears, we remember them.

Kimberly shares Chapter 5 of Ma-ma Land.
I went walking in a Victorian cemetery this morning. It’s a beautiful feature of my new neighborhood, now that I’ve downsized in anticipation of my youngest child leaving for college. There are lots of men buried there who were notable—governors and mayors and doctors and such—but my interest was in the women.
For one of them there was a plaque, erected by her children. It read: “Richly endowed in heart and mind, hers was a life treasured by all who came under its influence.” As I walked, I wondered: What is the influence of my life?
When I came home, I looked through a bunch of my old writings and found one I still like now. I wrote it nearly a decade ago, in a time of spiritual awakening, of kundalini rising. I called it “Credo.”
What are people?
People are bodies through which sensation-and-reflection streams flow.
Are the sensation-and-reflection streams what is usually called consciousness?
Yes.
How does consciousness happen?

USE THE TOOLS
This goes in the category of “How you are in 1 place in life, you are in all places in life.”
A leader was sharing that their team consistently made little mistakes. A step was forgotten here, a piece of info wasn’t relayed there.
“Do they have instructions or checklists?” I asked.
“Yes, but they think they know how to do things, so they’re not using them.” the leader responded.
Use. The. Tools.
This is true in work and in life. We can so easily think we’ve aced something, or have it totally down pat, or know it completely… until a simple mistake shows us we don’t.
Feeling great because you’ve got a consistent meditation practice? Excellent. Keep meditating.
Keep your cool because you’ve learned how to regulate your emotions? Wonderful! Keep using the tools...https://kindovermatter.com/use-the-tools-2/

Peter Cherr is featured in today's Poetry Corner.
Behold the mighty potato,
the side kick that often,
without fanfare,
takes the lead
in so many ways.
It is, like so many of us,
down to earth, solid,
and quietly always there,
under-estimated
in its steadiness
and its simplicity.

Small objects can remind us to be kinder to ourselves.
Kindness toward ourselves often sounds like a large emotional project. We imagine that it requires a full morning routine, a long journal entry, a quiet room or a version of ourselves who is already calm enough to begin.
Self-kindness usually begins in smaller places. It begins when we notice the way we speak to ourselves after a mistake. It begins when we pause before rushing into the next demand. It begins when one ordinary object on a desk, wrist, shelf or bedside table quietly reminds us to soften.
A small object cannot do the work of self-compassion. It cannot solve grief, erase stress or make a hard day easy. What it can do is interrupt the automatic motion of self-criticism. It can become a gentle cue: come back for a moment. Breathe. You are allowed to be human here.
