Today was the official start of our Teaching Fellow training session. We are so excited to welcome this summer’s TFs, and help them grow with our Scholars. We have so many awesome activities and cool trips planned this summer program, and we can’t wait to share it with you!

Before we welcome this year’s summer teaching fellows tomorrow, we want to share some throwback pics from the past 2 summers! We hope the TFs of the past can help inspire and guide our new TFs coming into the Breakthrough family in the coming days!

A massive congratulations to our Breakthrough Scholars and TFs who graduated this spring. You’ve all worked so hard and accomplished so much. We want to highlight 2 Scholars who’ve been with us since middle school, Eric Stern Jr. and Jarius Ford. We are so proud of them, and all the Breakthrough Scholars and TFs continuing their educational journeys.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to teachers around the nation, and the ones directly impacting the Breakthrough community. We want to highlight National Teacher of the Year, Leon Smith! We are so grateful to have spent time with you last summer, and so excited for our TFs to learn from you this June during their training week!

On Thursday April 30th, Breakthrough hosted our annual Spring Soiree, and it was a blast. We exceeded our goal of $150,000 by securing $171,000 in gifts and pledges. We had a record high in attendance, specifically on non-anniversary years! Now, let’s see if we can make it to a new goal, and reach $175,000 by the end of today! This past weekend, Senator Sharif Street visited Breakthrough for a very insightful Career Conversation on his job in local government. We were so honored and thankful he was able to impact our young Scholars and Teaching Fellows alike!

This past month, Breakthrough’s High School Ready program took a field trip to BCG and learned all about managing and professional development. Our Scholars got an exciting inside look into BCG offices and what life is like in the professional world. We are so thankful to BCG for this amazing opportunity!
