A message from Dr. Winsor. In Part 1, I use a 2015 Sierra trek over Kearsarge Pass to show how mosquitoes narrowed attention, thinned patience, and made relief feel more urgent than wonder. That wilderness lesson becomes a metaphor for the modern Attention Economy: not always dramatic, but erosive—small interruptions that slowly train the inner life away from presence.
Enjoy!

The Attention Economy: Of Mosquitoes and Lures — Part 1: Mosquitoes
Some wilderness threats come as storms. Others come with a whine in the ear. Part 1 of The Attention Economy explores the mosquito side of modern life: small, relentless interruptions that thin patience, fracture presence, and make relief feel more urgent than wonder.

Meet Ms. Charrlin, our amazing speech therapist who plays such an important role in helping students find their voices and build confidence in communication every single day 💬✨ Whether she’s supporting speech development, language skills, or social communication, she’s always patient, encouraging, and dedicated to helping every student succeed.
When she’s not making a difference on campus, you can probably find her dreaming of her favorite getaway—Myrtle Beach 🌊☀️—or relaxing with her comfort movie series, Harry Potter film series 🪄. She’s a fan of all things pink 💗 and loves a good laugh watching The Other Woman.
A fun fact? Ms. Charrlin has a hidden talent for solving jigsaw puzzles incredibly fast 🧩—a skill that definitely matches her ability to piece together ways to support each student’s unique needs.
We’re so lucky to have Ms. Charrlin helping our students communicate, connect, and thrive! 💛

Mrs. Peña is our amazing PE teacher!
She has been in education for a decade and has been part of our school community for the past 3 years.
Originally from Arizona, Mrs. Peña loves exploring nature, spending time with her family, and working on her business outside of school. She also has a small family and the world’s cutest dog! 💚
Some of her favorites include popcorn, chocolate banana peanut butter protein smoothies, kombucha, the color green, and music by Kaytranada. A fun fact about Mrs. Peña is that she can moonwalk—and she once had a Dora haircut in 3rd grade! 😄

Our Paideia scholars recently participated in a Vision Clinic with Complete Vision Care!
Scholars received full-service eye exams and glasses fittings to help support healthy vision and academic success. We are grateful for community partnerships that help remove barriers and ensure our scholars are ready to learn, lead, and thrive each day.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this opportunity possible for our school community!
