Final stop: a wonder of the world 🌎

Three weeks in Peru—learning, serving, and growing together—led us to this incredible morning at Machu Picchu.

A journey rooted in connection, perspective, and purpose, we hope this experience shapes not just what our students know, but who they are becoming 🏔️💙

Our Health Sciences faculty were in attendance for this year’s American College of Sports Medicine annual meeting in Salt Lake City, UT, to learn about all things sports medicine.

Duquesne University was recognized as a Gold Campus through the ACSM's Exercise is Medicine On Campus Program during the meeting.

To top it off, Duquesne University Athletic Training alum Rebecca Stearns was named as a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.

It was another great national American College of Sports Medicine meeting!!

Our students worked alongside in Cusco to support mobile medical clinics, helping bring free, high‑quality healthcare directly to underserved communities in the Andean highlands. They also contributed to sustainable development projects, including greenhouse initiatives designed to improve nutrition, health, and long‑term community resilience.

MEDLIFE’s mission is rooted in collaboration—partnering with communities to expand access to medicine, education, and development while promoting sustainable change. This Maymester embodied that vision: listening, learning, and working hand‑in‑hand.

Future Occupational Therapist loading!

Congratulations to new Health Sciences alumni Leah Smith (26’) on her acceptance to graduate school. She will be heading to in August to pursue graduate study in Occupational Therapy! 🎓👏🏼🎉

Capstone Night ✨

A celebration of growth, curiosity, and impact as our Health Sciences students presented their capstone projects—the culminating work of their academic journeys before graduation.

Learning goes beyond the textbook 🐾

Every semester our class on animal‑assisted therapies in sports medicine gets a special visit from Professor Houdek and his therapy dog, Jethro—demonstrating firsthand how animals can support healing, recovery, and patient well‑being.

This month the Rangos Community Building and Engagement Committee collaborated with to host a powerful panel with members of the Freedom House Ambulance Service; John Moon, Larry Underwood, Darnella Wilson, and George McCary III.

Founded in 1967 in the Hill District, The Freedom House pioneered modern emergency medical services by training and deploying some of the nations first paramedics, setting life-saving standards that transformed pre-hospital care nationwide.

Freedom House’s legacy is rooted in innovation, community service, and breaking barriers.

Moderated by our adjunct faculty member and EMS specialist Linda Reiger, we are grateful for the opportunity to learn first hand from history-makers and frontline professionals whose work continues to save lives and shape the future of emergency care.
