Congratulations to our 5th Grade teacher, Kate McKerley, as she begins her Masters in Classical Education Leadership at Hillsdale College. Miss McKerley possesses a B.A. in Education and 7 years of experience with Christian Education, Grades 5-8. She will continue to teach Penn Woods students as she pursues this advanced degree.

Miss McKerley, we thank you for your admirable commitment and inspiring example and ask God’s blessing as you undertake this rigorous program!

Penn Woods salutes Mrs. Amy Dady, currently teaching 6th grade at Penn Woods, who will soon embark upon a 3-year Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership through Duquesne University!

Mrs. Dady possesses a B.A. in Sports Management and a Masters Degree in Mid-Level English and has found great joy in teaching Hillsdale’s beautifully designed curriculum to our Sixth Graders. It has inspired her to continue learning and growing.

That’s exactly what we hope our students will always do!

Mrs. Dady will continue to teach whilst pursuing her Ed. D.

Gratitude is more than simply saying "thank you." It is a posture of the heart that recognizes every good gift as coming from the hand of a loving and faithful God. Gratitude teaches us to see God's goodness not only in moments of abundance, but also in seasons of challenge, uncertainty, and waiting. The world often tells us to be thankful when circumstances are timely. Scripture teaches something much better and deeper. Christians, we, are called to give thanks in all circumstances because our gratitude is rooted not in our situation, but in the unchanging character of God. We can be thankful because God is good. We can be thankful because God is faithful. We can be thankful because God is at work, even when we cannot yet see the outcome.

Remember how it felt? Remember the impact it had on you? On the way you saw yourself? On the way you perceived others? On the sort of dreams you formed for your future?

It’s an important time of human formation! Between the ages of 11 to 14, students begin to make decisions, choose friendships, and have experiences - big and small - which impact profoundly how they understand themselves and what kind of person they will become.

They begin asking deeper questions.
They test ideas.
They test their parents.
They try to express themselves and their understanding of their world.
They watch and listen to others closely.
They search for purpose, identity, belonging.

The environment surrounding them during these years matters profoundly. Their teachers matter. Their friends matter. You, of course, matter. . . . And curriculum matters. Does your school understand and appreciate this? Do you like who your child is becoming? Is the culture a good fit for your family and child? Is the curriculum robust and engaging? Is your child coming home excited or bored? Lights on or “lights out”?
