Congratulations to Carnegie Mellon University graduate Ryan Bassett who recently won the Assistant Principal Bass position with the Phoenix Symphony!

We are so proud of Carnegie Mellon University graduates Riley Zimmerman, who just won a position with the United States Army Band, and Patrick Spallinger, who joined the band in August of 2024!

We are so proud of Carnegie Mellon University, Advanced Music Studies Student, Daniel Ryan, who just came back from Ireland where he played a week as 2nd Principal Double Bass with the Ulster Orchestra!

Presenters for the 2026 Carnegie Mellon Double Bass Symposium will include Max Dimoff, Rachel Calin, Kurt Muroki, Jeff Mangone, the Pittsburgh Symphony Double Bass Section, and Nina Bernat as the featured recitalist! Jason Heath will be there to cover the event.

Sponsors/Exhibitors include Shank’s Strings, Bob’s House of Basses, Upton Bass, 050 Rosin, and Guarneri House.

All performances and classes will be held in Kresge Theatre. The exhibitors will be located in Alumni Concert Hall in the College of Fine Arts Building.

This event will be in person and streamed live on Carnegie Mellon’s YouTube Channel.

The first place prize is a subbing week with the Minnesota Orchestra, which will be in April 2026.
