Greetings, Amazing Edgewood!

By now, many of you may have noticed notices placed on vehicles throughout the neighborhood. We are using these notices to inform residents about the new parking ordinance that will take effect on July 13, 2026.

Under the new ordinance, motorists will be required to:
• Park in the direction of travel on two-way streets, with the right-side tires within 12 inches of the curb.
• On one-way streets, park only on the authorized side
of the roadway and in the direction of traffic flow.

This ordinance is designed to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians, and our community as a whole.

Why is parking in the direction of traffic important?

Improved Visibility: When parked against the flow of traffic, drivers often have a limited view when pulling back into the roadway, increasing the risk of a collision.

Pedestrian Safety: Pedestrians generally expect vehicles to enter traffic in the established direction of travel. Vehicles facing the wrong direction can create unexpected hazards.

Reduced Headlight Glare: At night, vehicles parked facing oncoming traffic can create unnecessary glare for approaching drivers.

We understand that changes to long-standing habits can take some getting used to, but this ordinance is intended to make our streets safer for everyone.

I-376 Overnight Ramp Restriction Monday Night in Wilkinsburg

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing an overnight ramp closure on I-376 (Parkway East) in Wilkinsburg Borough, Allegheny County, will occur Monday night, June 22 weather permitting.

An overnight closure on the Wilkinsburg/Ardmore Boulevard ramp to eastbound I-376 toward Monroeville (after the I-376 West/I-376 East split) will occur from 9:00 PM Monday night to 5:00 AM Tuesday morning. Crews will conduct asphalt repairs. Traffic will be detoured.

• Take the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) exit
• Turn left onto South Braddock Avenue
• Turn right onto Monongahela Avenue
• Take the ramp to eastbound I-376 towards Monroeville
• End detour

I-376 Parkway East Milling and Paving Operations this Weekend in Monroeville

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing lane restrictions for milling and paving operations on I-376 (Parkway East) in the Municipality of Monroeville, Allegheny County will occur this weekend, Friday night through Sunday afternoon, June 19-21 weather permitting.

Milling and paving operations, line painting, and other miscellaneous construction activities will occur on I-376 between the Monroeville/Plum (Exit 84 A/B) and Penn Hills (Exit 81) interchanges this weekend. I-376 will be reduced to a single-lane of traffic in both directions from 9:00 PM Friday night continuously through noon on Sunday to accommodate the work. The restrictions could be lifted earlier if the work is completed sooner.

Additionally, overnight restrictions will occur from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM Monday through Thursday nights this week to allow crews to conduct High Friction Surface Treatment installation and compression seal replacement work.

Eastbound I-376 Parkway East Nightly Lane Closure This Week in Pittsburgh, Edgewood

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing a nightly lane closure on eastbound I-376 (Parkway East) in Edgewood Borough and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Tuesday through Thursday nights, June 16-18 weather permitting.

A single right lane closure on eastbound I-376 will occur between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM each night. Crews will use the closed lane on the existing bridge to conduct concrete and barrier work on the new bridge.

Route 30 Ardmore Boulevard Lane Closures Begin Monday in Forest Hills, Wilkinsburg

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing daytime and overnight single lane closures on Route 30 (Ardmore Boulevard) in Wilkinsburg and Forest Hills boroughs, Allegheny County, will begin Monday, June 1 weather permitting.

Starting Monday, single lane closures will occur as needed on Ardmore Boulevard in each direction between Morrow Road and Brinton Road weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and weeknights from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM through spring of 2028. The road will remain open.

Crews will work to install paint containment on the I-376 (Parkway East) bridge and ramps above the roadway.

Trash Collection on Friday

Trash (and recycling) collection is scheduled for Friday, May 29. This is delayed due to the Memorial Day holiday. All streets will be collected.

RESIDENTS CAN DISPOSE OF HARD TO RECYCLE MATERIALS IN MCKEESPORT ON AUGUST 1

Allegheny County residents in need of disposing of electronics, tires, Styrofoam, and freon-containing devices can register to drop off materials on August 1, in the parking lot of McKeesport Area High School. This collection in McKeesport is part of the County’s ongoing Hard To Recycle program conducted in partnership with Pennsylvania Resources Council.

At this one-day Hard To Recycle collection event at McKeesport Area High School, individuals can drop off electronics, tires, Styrofoam, and freon-containing appliances.

Mon Valley area residents are eligible to receive a voucher for $60 worth of free recycling. Contact PRC for details.

Materials are recycled at a per-item fee. On-site payment is accepted via cash, check or card. Note: CPU (towers) and laptops are accepted at no cost.

Overnight Parking Restrictions Temporarily Lifted

Overnight 3-5 a.m. on-street parking restrictions are being temporarily lifted by the Mayor. This is effective from 3am on Saturday, May 23 through 5am on Monday, May 25. Restrictions resume at 3am on Tuesday, May 26.
