A Letter To College Students: 10 Ways To Side With Humanity - Starts With Us 05/03/2024

"We live in a perpetually burning building, and what we must save from it, all the time, is love."
- Tennessee Williams

Very timely quote from today's 1440 Digest.

I deeply admire people willing to sacrifice for the cause of peace, but sometimes we become so taken with a cause that we lose perspective. All too often I have seen myself in James and John, who thought they were serving God with the confrontational solution they proposed, but Jesus rebuked them with: “Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of” (Luke 9:55).

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God" (Matt. 5:9). We pray every day for peacemakers. If you are wondering what you can do, please consider the suggestions here. Thanks, Lori Belnap Pehrson, for sharing!

Please do share other non-violent, bridge-building suggestions.

You can apply for the scholarship at this link, once you apply for an Independent Study course: https://forms.gle/hLT6hsz39UkziHoM7

AHS Summer Scholar Awards | Arabic Honor Society 02/20/2019

2019 BYU Arabic Language Camp

Dates: June 24th - July 13th
Location: BYU Campus
Housing: On-campus residence

The BYU Arabic Language Camp draws students from across the nation and beyond to spend three weeks learning and living Arabic language and culture. Under the tutelage of expert instructors, students will learn to communicate confidently in Arabic face-to-face as well as diving into the world of Facebook, Twitter, and Whatsapp as used by Arabs.

Students participate according to their ability in one of four levels:

Level 1
No previous Arabic
Level 2
Mastery of the script; will begin with Al-Kitaab Lesson 2
Level 3
Will begin with Al-Kitaab Lesson 6
Level 4
Will begin with Al-Kitaab Lesson 14

BYU was not awarded a STARTALK grant this year, due to the fact that overall funding was cut by 17% and they are now pushing a model that disfavors larger residential programs like ours. Cost is therefore estimated to be $1750. We are working on funding for students from families for whom this would constitute a burden. If you are a member of the QFI Arabic Honor Society (have studied for two years in high school and done well), please apply at:

AHS Summer Scholar Awards | Arabic Honor Society Learning a second language requires consistent work to keep it sharp in your mind. When school breaks for the summer, many students are looking for a means to keep up with their Arabic, and some even to push it to the next level.
