We stand at a crossroads of history right here in Queens, and I am here to tell you that the "quiet part" is being said out loud no more. We have seen the headlines. We heard the "hot mic" that echoed across this city, where our children were called "too dumb to know they’re in a bad school". We saw the "simmering anti-Blackness" exposed in our very own backyard. But where some see a moment of insult, I.S. 59Q 👀 a moment of insurrection—an insurrection of the mind!

We are not just relaunching a curriculum; we are reclaiming a culture. For too long, the story of our people began in chains, but we are reaching back to the dawn of time to teach ✨️ civilization before enslavement. We are bringing an intellectually honest narrative to our classrooms that celebrates Black immigrants from Barbados to Jamaica, and the global intellectual, scientific, and artistic contributions that built this world. This is "heart work"—a $27 million investment in the dignity of every student who walks through our doors.

Our District is the vanguard!. We aren't just teaching history; we are making history as we teach it. Under the mandate of Chancellor Kamar Samuels, we are interrupting prejudice and replacing "distorted narratives" with accurate scholarship and academic rigor. We are equipping our children to be the policymakers, the educators, and the business leaders of tomorrow by giving them the historical literacy they deserve.

To the parents, the leaders, and the beautiful students of Queens: The back door is closed forever! We are rising to become the top Middle School in this district because we refuse to accept an incomplete story. We are affirming identity, we are demanding excellence, and we are preparing our children to lead this city.

What an UNFORGETTABLE day on the water!

Last Friday, June 12th, we made history with our Second Annual “Sanjay Samuel’s Rock & Fish Cruise: Reel Fun. Real Vibes.”

This wasn't just a field trip; it was a powerful display of collaboration and community as I.S. 59Q joined forces with P.S. 176Q for a massive "flotilla" experience in the calm, protected waters of Freeport. We integrated our scholars and staff across two professional vessels—the Capt Lou VII and the Atlantic Pearl—building bridges between our schools that will last a lifetime.

The energy was electric! ⚡️

- On the “Fish” (Lower Deck), our students mastered the art of the catch with hands-on lessons, and we even awarded trophies for the “Biggest Fish" on each boat. 🎣

- On the “Rock” (Upper Deck), the party was non-stop! Our scholars showed off their best moves on the dance floor, and we crowned our “Best Dancer” plaque winners amidst a sea of smiles. 💃🕺

A huge thank you to Principal Garcia, Assistant Principal Naidu, and the entire administrative team for their partnership in "aiming for the stars" for our children. 🌟
