Hi Parents! Remember that school breaks can greatly impact your child with special needs. Removal of the structure that a school day provides may impact your child's emotional state. They no longer know what is going to happen next. A schedule can help moderate this feeling.

As summer breaks roll around, let's all have fun! If you have a child with special needs, make sure that fun is structured, and tailored to your child. Remember they are leaving a very structured environment (school), for a daily life that is potentially very free from structure. Putting some structure around summer fun can help your child adjust and enjoy summer.

Remember IEP parents! By the time your child is 16 years old, the IEP team is REQUIRED to create a post-high school transition plan. This plan must involve your child's thoughts about continuing education, work, and their living situation once they graduate.
I am here to support you in making sure all appropriate actions are taken to get your child ready for their transition into "life after high school"!
