Less than a week and counting. đźš—

Shoutout to our program team who, alongside our amazing faculty, plan and pull off an incredible week of hands-on PD, edCamp sessions, alumni-led workshops, a scavenger hunt, and a gathering of some of the most inspiring educators in North Carolina, all in one place.

For our 2026-27 Kenan Fellows, it all starts next Monday. Get ready for a transformational week in the NC mountains.

Special thanks to our staff members, Mark Townley, Linda Dion and Carrie Yeske Horton for giving you a behind-the-scenes peek of the tremendous amount of work that goes into planning this memorable week.

KFP alumni, drop your best advice for the incoming fellows in the comments. What do you wish you'd known walking in? 👇

Day 2 of our summer PD with our Onslow County Schools STEMwork Scholars who are learning how to incorporate Project Based Learning into their curriculum and build partnerships with local industries. Teachers are bringing workforce relevance to their classrooms through this unique workshop. The result? Students who are best prepared to enter the local workforce especially in Naval careers. Thanks to Office of Naval Research (ONR) for supporting this work.

Great conferences aren’t just about the sessions. They’re about the people leading them. Between now and August, we’re spotlighting the educators taking the stage at Reigniting Teacher Passion.

Casey Schulte, a Beaufort County Schools, NC educator and 2023 Burroughs Wellcome Fund Northeast Region Teacher of the Year, is a Kenan Fellow who believes your ZIP code should never determine your opportunities.

On Aug. 3, 2026, in Chapel Hill, Casey is bringing “Defying Gravity: Wicked Engagement Strategies for your Classroom” to life. Think gamified challenges, collaborative strategies, and practical tools you can use to engage your students immediately. 🧙‍♀️✨

Every paid registration enters you into our Share the Spark giveaway for a chance to win a Cricut bundle, a $300 value.
