Summer art camp has officially started! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

On the first day of our Sun and Sea camp, our budding artists created their own beach collage, made a painting of shells, and many other summer-y things in between. We just love how happy and proud everyone is with their artworks!

Now, weโ€™re excited to see what else theyโ€™ll make with their teaching artist, Miss Cheryl Johnson.

So fun! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿš๐Ÿ˜

Letโ€™s take a peak upstairs of the Lake Mansionโ€ฆ

The staircase is completely original, except for the top newel post (replica in place). The handrail and posts were all hand-carved.

No nails were used in the staircase construction.

The house, built in 1877, by well-known Reno architect John S. Sturgeon for the Marsh family, was designed with four bedroom upstairs.

Today, these bedroom doors open to art and community, as home to Arts for All Nevadaโ€ฆ continuing the Lake Mansionโ€™s history.

Next year, the Lake Mansion turns 150. Join us as we prepare to celebrate the 150th year of Renoโ€™s first address.

Big thanks to Kennedy and Taylor, and Amplify Life's amazing volunteers for helping out too!

The first week of the Colors of Work exhibition went by so quick!

Thank you to all who came to celebrate the intern-artists of Transition Academy ๐Ÿ˜Š

Colors of Work exhibition features artworks that show their unique perspective on livelihood: what motivates them, what challenges them, and what brings them pride.

The artists displayed in this exhibition are all young adults with intellectual and cognitive disabilities who are actively preparing their next steps through vocational training, career exploration, and workplace readiness.

Under the guidance of our teaching artist, Anne Hunter, the interns have created a vibrant collection of mixed media works.

Colors of Work will run from June 1 to July 9, Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm at the McKinley Arts Center (West Gallery).

We would like to thank the Transition Academy, Washoe County School District, and Reno Big Arts Little City for this wonderful partnership.

Artist at the Mansion! โค๏ธ

Thank you, Amadour, for stopping by the Lake Mansion.

It was wonderful to welcome you and learn more about your work. We love and are proud of you being a Sparks/Reno home-grown talent, now conquering the art scene internationally, and are excited about the possibility of working together in the future.

If you haven't already, be sure to check out Amadour's solo exhibition, 'Amadour: Nevada Proscenium' at the TMCC Main Gallery, on view through June 18. It explores Nevada's history, from the Comstock Lode and Virginia City's mining systems to the stories of Latinx, immigrant, and working-class communities who helped shape our state.

Best of luck with the exhibition, and may you continue to inspire many of our youth to create and love art! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hereโ€™s a preview of the โ€˜Colors of Workโ€™ artworks by the student-intern artists from the Transition Academy!

The exhibition features art that show their unique perspective on livelihood: what motivates them, what challenges them, and what brings them pride.

The artists displayed in this exhibition are all young adults with intellectual and cognitive disabilities who are actively preparing their next steps through vocational training, career exploration, and workplace readiness.

At Transition Academy , which operates through the Washoe County School District , interns participate in supported, hands-on learning experiences across a variety of industries, visiting local businesses and job sites as they build practical skills and confidence.

Each day, the interns develop independence and self-advocacy through their training and engagement with their peers.

Under the guidance of Anne Hunter , a Teaching Artist with Arts for All Nevada, these interns have created a vibrant collection of mixed media works.

Combining painting, photography, and other materials, their pieces reflect their personal experiences of work - what it feels like to learn, to contribute, and build a meaningful future.

Colors of Work will run from June 1 to July 9, Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm at the McKinley Arts Center.
