Meet LeighAnne Page, owner of Delicious Designs in Reno and the first feature in our TMCC alumni-owned business series.

LeighAnne’s connection to Truckee Meadows Community College started right after high school, when she enrolled in TMCC’s Culinary Arts Program. She went on to earn her culinary arts degree and baking certificates before building experience in local hotels and casinos.

That foundation helped her grow Delicious Designs, a Reno bakery specializing in custom cakes, cookies, desserts and specialty treats for weddings and events throughout Northern Nevada.

This feature is part of TMCC’s Your Story Starts Here campaign, highlighting the students, alumni and community members whose journeys began at TMCC.

Are you a TMCC alum who owns a business, or do you know someone who is? We’d love to hear their story and possibly feature them next.

Wizard the Lizard and Mighty came ready for mascot MVP status.

Now the important question:

TMCC students, faculty and leadership joined colleagues from across the Nevada System of Higher Education at the Board of Regents meeting at the University of Nevada, Reno.

The meeting included an important moment of recognition for TMCC, with the approval of President Emeritus status for the former TMCC President Dr. Karin Hilgersom in honor of her nine years of service and contributions to our college community.

Pictured with President Alexander are Lissette Hernandez, Registered Student Organization Assistant; Tabi Arnett, student government vice president; Mike Peyerl; members of TMCC’s leadership team; and Jinger Doe, outgoing Faculty Senate chair and Nevada System of Higher Education chair of chairs.

It was a great opportunity to connect with Nevada System of Higher Education colleagues, represent TMCC and continue working together in support of students and our community!

🚑 Building tomorrow’s emergency management and public safety workforce.

Proud of the progress our EM STEP students are making and grateful for partners helping make these opportunities possible.

When disaster strikes, Nevada needs leaders ready to respond. That’s why DETR is proud to fund the new Emergency Management STEP Program at Truckee Meadows Community College, helping entry-level public safety and healthcare students see what’s possible with their careers.

By pairing targeted workshops with career counseling and scholarship support, we are building a direct pipeline into vital roles across state government, law enforcement, healthcare, and Homeland Security.

We are thrilled to share our Spring 2026 momentum:
➡68 students enrolled this semester alone, training across critical fields like CNA (26), EMT Basic & Advanced (26), Fire Academy (11), Phlebotomy (3), and Sterile Processing (2).
➡100% Completion Rate for our very first smaller cohort (Jan–Mar)!
➡37 more students just wrapped up Cohort 2 in April, bringing us closer to our goal of empowering 108 future emergency management professionals.

By shifting to smaller, highly flexible classes, we are ensuring our future first responders get the individual support they need to succeed.

Sophie Moeller’s journey is a reminder that it’s never too late to rewrite your story. 💙

After struggling academically following an ADHD diagnosis and facing substance use challenges throughout her 20s, Sophie found sobriety at age 32 and made the decision to enroll at TMCC.

“By leaning into TMCC’s student resources, I rediscovered my love for academic learning,” she said.

She graduated with her Associate of Arts degree in 2022, joined Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and has since become a leader in Northern Nevada’s nonprofit community. Today, Sophie serves as Development Director for Achieve Tahoe, helping expand access to outdoor recreation opportunities for people with disabilities.

Recognized as TMCC’s 2026 Alumna of the Year, Sophie continues to lead with resilience, compassion and community at the center of everything she does.

Every member of the TMCC community has a story worth telling.

Know a student, alum, employee or community member whose journey could inspire others? We’d love to hear it. https://f.mtr.cool/wdbssectym

Look who’s growing up at Dandini Campus 🦉

This spring, students in Biology 190 and 191 helped support TMCC’s owl nesting project in the Dandini Gardens, a hands-on learning opportunity focused on wildlife conservation, sustainability and local biodiversity.

Now, we have a summer update: owl babies!

The project gives students the chance to connect classroom learning with real-world observation while supporting a healthier campus ecosystem. The owl nests also help encourage natural pest control near the Countess Angela Dandini Pollinator Garden, reducing the need for chemical rodenticides.

At TMCC, students do more than study science. They get to experience it.
