“While it’s true that there’s no “I” in team, a team is made up of individuals—people whose hard work and unique talents made the victory possible.”

“So unlike a painter who needs a canvas or a writer who can sit down and generate their art, I need cooperation and support. So that’s something you have to keep earning.”
-Ron Howard

Today reminded me again that student-led programs are different.
The leadership team at Denton HS brought tremendous energy and intentionality to our Creating a Culture of Excellence session today. They asked great questions, challenged each other, and leaned into the hard conversations that actually move programs forward. Proud of the work they’re doing already.

The best part of these sessions is watching students realize they already have the ability to influence the people around them. Student leadership is influence through relationship.
Had a fantastic time with the leadership team at Denton Ryan today. Lots of great discussion about standards, relationships, accountability, and what it really takes to build a culture people want to be part of. Excited for where they’re headed this year.

I have learned a lot as a head director. That’s part of the reason why I coach young directors now. You don’t have to know everything on your own.
DM “summer coach” if you’re interested.

Caring creates trust. Trust builds community. Community fosters creativity, and creativity unlocks the most beautiful cultures.
Awesome day with the student leaders at North Mesquite working through the 4Cs of Creating a Culture of Excellence. The conversations today were honest, thoughtful, and driven by students who genuinely want to leave their program better than they found it. That matters. Big things ahead for this group.

Strong programs aren’t sustained by teachers doing everything.
They’re sustained by students who know how to lead.
When student leaders are trained to communicate, solve problems, and take ownership, rehearsals run smoother, and the weight on the director’s shoulders gets lighter.
The jonesLeadership 2026 Student Workshops focus on practical leadership skills students can actually use—so you can spend more time teaching and less time managing.
If you’re ready for leaders who support your vision instead of depending on you for every decision, let’s talk.
