Last week, UCSA attended the California Senate Elections Committee to advocate for our sponsored constitutional amendment, ACA 18, and the Assembly Health Committee to speak in support of UAW’s research bond, SB 895.
⚖️ ACA 18 (Assemblymember Jessica Caloza), the Student Regent Empowerment Amendment, will double the voting membership on the UC Board of Regents & codify undergraduate & graduate/professional representation!
🔬 SB 895 (Senator Scott Wiener), the California Health & Science Research Bond Act, will allow the state to backfill federal funding cuts to crucial, life-saving research in cancer, diabetes, and other critical health & science breakthroughs at the UC and beyond.
Thank you to Disability Justice Officer Nataliah and UC Berkeley LD Clarinde Sanft for their advocacy. 🙌💙🗣️ Special shoutout to Alexis Zaragoza for her testimony on the Student Regent Empowerment Amendment, and UCLA GSA EVP Jack Feng for his tireless leadership supporting research funding.
Let’s get these bills over the finish line! Assemblymember Jessica Caloza Senator Scott Wiener UCGPC UAW Local 4811 🎉🙏

When UC Regents meetings are met with overpolicing, surveillance, and intimidation, student voices are not being heard; they’re being controlled.
Free speech on our campuses must include the right to dissent, organize, and speak truth to power without fear.
Students deserve transparency, accountability, and safety…not suppression. ✊📢

Our fourth and final quarterly meeting with UCSA’s External Vice Presidents and our President, JB Milliken for the 2025-26 academic year. ⚖️📆
We appreciate the deliberation around key issues facing students across the UC, especially relating to disability services, basic needs, free speech, diversity programs and federal cuts to research, SNAP & healthcare. UCSA looks forward to continuing the longstanding tradition of partnership and shared governance, especially as President Milliken hits his one-year anniversary taking helm of UC this August! 🙌🗣️🤝
