On May 2, a structure fire at University of South Florida College of Marine Science's Marine Science Laboratory building caused devastating destruction.
More than 60 units and 200 firefighters responded to the blaze, making it one of the largest emergency responses St. Petersburg has ever seen.
In the days that followed, the university's response shifted from fire suppression, life safety and hazardous materials assessment to research salvage and recovery planning. Throughout it all, the first priority was people.
Take an inside look of the first days of USF’s response to the fire ⬇️

For the first time, eligible students may be able to use VA education benefits, including the GI Bill®, to enroll in the USF Brewing Arts certificate program. 🍺
Joe Askren, director of the program, surveyed hundreds of breweries in Florida and learned an interesting fact — nearly 75% of breweries in the state employed at least one veteran.
“Since we launched, there has been so much interest by veterans in our program, but cost was always a barrier,” Askren said. “By expanding access, it further shows to the veteran community that we are here to provide educational opportunities that train students for careers in this industry.”
