The finished product! Super happy how this little guy turned out! 😃To the color combinations, to the recreated paper, to the brand,spanking new tray. It’s all about the little details with this one. On to the next build!

Last up, the tray! So as I started to remove the contact paper I realized the tray was actually made of cardboard (oh you heard right😑). This trunk’s about to get an upgrade!

Hardware installed ✅ Slats & handles installed ✅ Lovin the way the color combination on this trunk turned out ✅✅ Now to get the lid attached and see what we can do about the tray!

Oh we’re ready...💀

There will be smashed fingers🤬 So here’s the idea. You hold the heel in one hand tightly against one side of the wood while slowly tapping in the trunk nail with the other hand. As the nail hits the heel it bends back around into the wood securing the hardware. If you’re lucky there’s still some paint left after you’re done. 🤞🏼

Woooo this paper was a hot mess!💩 Repeated failed attempts to clean what was left forced me to realize I am no archivist. Know your strengths!
Trips to the local Hob Lob and endless google searches left me with nothing close to the original paper. Luckily I was able to find a tiny section without damage, snapped a picture, threw it in a photo editor, and voilà! As good as it’s gonna get!👍🏼
To give it an extra layer I printed it on a textured paper (picked up at a fruitless trip to said craft store...).
Even though the entire interior was covered I am only going to do the lid as a kind of homage to the original. Time to reassemble the lid and onto my favorite part, hardware!

We’re not having cocktail parties anytime soon so might as well put these little guys to good use. Let’s fill some nail holes!👍🏼

So after stripping all the contact paper off and giving it a good sanding I’ve decided not to recover it. Gonna let this little trunk just be it’s self. Just look at that grain after a few coats of tung oil! Muwah! Beautiful!🤩
