We had such a wonderful time at the Annual Winter Holiday Event! Thank you to everyone who joined us! Many thanks to Briana Jackson for organizing such an amazing night. We also want to thank our hospitalist, cardiology department, and critical care department for covering the teams to allow our resident to enjoy this experience. Happy holidays!

Another wonderful jeopardy noon conference organized by our academic chief, Dr. Haloot. Congrats to Team 2 on winning the second jeopardy game of the academic year! I’m still hearing the “meow” buzzer even after the game.

Dr. Payal Patel’s career as an infectious disease physician has been dedicated to addressing the pressing issue of antimicrobial resistance through clinical practice, advocacy, scholarship, national and international research collaborations, and medical education. Dr. Patel completed a medical degree and internal medicine residency at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, earning an MD with distinction in research in the field of infectious diseases. Committed to gaining clinical expertise in antimicrobial stewardship, Dr. Patel completed fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center / Harvard Medical School. Dr. Patel also completed a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. In 2015, Dr. Patel joined the faculty at the University of Michigan and was an associate professor of infectious diseases, the Medical Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and the Chair of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee at the Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System. Dr. Patel won the 2021 SHEA Antibiotic Stewardship Scholar Award and the 2021 Johns Hopkins University Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Patel is also an active member of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), and a “Stand Up to Superbugs Ambassador” with the Pew Charitable Trusts. She is currently serving as a voting member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria. Dr. Patel is now the system head of antimicrobial stewardship at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City in Utah and consults for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on international antimicrobial stewardship.
