Our Dean Dr. Stephanie Schmiedecke Barbieri attended the International Retinal Conference in Fort Worth, Texas, where she represented the organization as an RSO speaker. Her participation highlighted a strong commitment to advancing retinal care, research, and professional collaboration within the field.

During the conference, Dr. Schmiedecke Barbieri had the meaningful opportunity to connect with one of the organization's patients, underscoring the real-world impact of their collective work and dedication to patient care.

Additionally, she had the honor of meeting a blind Paralympic gold medalist in swimming, widely recognized on social media as the "Blind Barbie." Her accomplishments and perspective serve as a powerful testament to resilience, determination, and excellence.

Roxanne Attaran completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Davis. She is in her 4th year of the Doctor of Optometry Program at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry.

Roxanne shines as a compassionate and skilled clinician, especially in pediatric care, where she creates a positive and trusting environment for her patients.

A dedicated leader, she serves as President of the Student Government Association and as a Trustee for the American Academy of Optometry (AAO), advocating for her peers and strengthening the optometry community.

Roxanne truly exemplifies leadership, service, and clinical excellence—we’re excited to see her future in optometry!
